electric fence question - why would you need this?

i am being thick but do you really one of these? Can you not just either join two strands with a small bit of leccy tape or use one long bit of tape for the whole thing so run along top down end post and back along to make bottom strand

I have earth wires between live wires on one of my fences (gives it extra zap but then I have sheep and six wires) also I use them to jump levels between permanent and temp fences and where there are height changes

You can knot or tape joins but it does have an effect on power supply to the whole fence
