ELECTRIC FENCE TAPE JOINERS, expensive & a waste of money (TRY THIS)

I used to buy electric tape joiners to ensure that the power would remain good around my paddocks but at about 50p - 70p each it was expensive. I found that just knotting the tape was no good as it did not ensure that the wire strands were making good contact at the knot. I've also found that the joiners rust as well & that causes other shorting issues. I've thought about this for a while and this morning I went about sorting the paddocks out without having to replace all the tape. I went onto Ebay and bought 100 x 25 mm key rings costing £4.69 including postage Where our fence was knotted together I undid or cut the knot out and then tied the fence tape to each side of the key ring thus making a good connection. I went through many knots & knotted the tape on both sides of a key ring. As a result of doing this I turned the energiser on again & tested the tape at various points & it was working fine in fact I gave myself a big jolt. So at under 5p a key ring it cost me only pennies to fix the electric tape against many pounds for the 'professionally' made contacts.

Try it yourselves and save a fortune!

That's an interesting one! Too late for me, having recently spent a fortune on litzclip connectors, but one I shall bear in mind!

I find knotting works fine if you put the tapes flat together, knot and pull really tight.
Using connectors rather than knots is a safety thing, so the line will pull apart if the horse gets caught up in it, you should put connectors in long stretches of tape for this reason (though it feels wrong cutting into a nice complete stretch of fencing!)

Great idea - key rings are nice and lightweight too. I discovered a similar hack instead of paying out for ‘proper’ electric fence connectors by using galvanised steel lynch pins. They’re really handy to use where i have electric gates to slot the handle hook onto, before i used a loop of electric tape but it would often burn-out /metal strands break, and i’d lose a good connection.

I also found connectors similar to the ones sold but vastly cheaper than fencing supplies sell them - it was for a different industry and i got 50 for 10 quid or some such silly price, unfortunately cant recall atm where i got them, it was a while back.
