Electric fence

Can anyone tell me what can be used to test whether an electric fence is working and where I can purchase this.

A handy child? You shouldn't need to buy one, most yards have at least one.

I use a pooper scooper rake. Hold rubber handle and put metal bit on fence. Works for me.

Boy scouts are quite reliable. If I put the fence on when the scouts are out and about it doesn't take long to find out whether or not the fence is working

OH or really thick pair gloves!

Get a thick blade of grass, wet it, lay it against the fence and you should feel it tingle when the fence pulses. Fence testers are expensive but are handy to have around.

I use a Hotline keyring size tester, around £20 from Mole Valley Farmers. You put the metal strip on back of tester onto fence tape and press the red button on the front and it shows you the fence output in LED's.

I use my son! He gets choices - he can either walk to the other side of an 8 acre field to get the fence tester from its hidey hole, then take it back, or he can take a hit from the fence without moving much. He always chooses the second option (then gets stroppy about the shock!!)
