Electric fencing -corners

Due to a recent bout of mild laminitis I am going to have to separate my pony from her companion at night when they have their hay. Unfortunately they are opposites. My friend's horse needs as much forage as possible whereas my pony's feed has to be restricted.

Anyhoo - for this reason I will be creating a small overnight paddock in part of the field.

I will be using plastic poles and fencing tape. I always have a problem with corners as the tension in the tape pulls them in (I cannot fence from one side of the field to the other as the area would be too large).

Does anyone know a way of reinforcing the corners bearing in mind there will be horses on both sides of the fence?

Yes. Put two posts next to each other, they will hold each other in place and form the corner.

I have used tree stakes hammered in which work very well, I use these for gateways too

I have also used another plastic post at an angle and cable tied to the upright one

Could you not use wooden posts for the corners?

I use wooden posts for corners, nothing else I have tried works.

I always smooth off the corners so that they are sort of round - using 2 post about 4 or 5 feet apart rather than one in the corner (or make the pen a circular sort of shape)

You can get special corner posts made out of metal with multiple feet so they don't pull over, you then just use some plastic discs to thread the rope (or tape) through so the post doesn't get electrified.

Prefer to wooden stakes as they are easier to move.

another alternative is to go across a corner to make a triangular paddock

we use the metal stakes, not cheap but work well if you don't want any wooden posts in. Bit of a pain if ground dry though! (we used them to set up a track round the outside of our square field.

Use the double footed corner posts for poultry netting and you can buy slide on insulators to take the tape or rope - works a treat.

Try the 2 posts together before you spend any money - it does work.

Dont do a right angle corner, go across the corner by using 2 posts about a foot apart so you form 3 straight lines, the 2 sides and a bit across the corner of about a foot (distance between the posts). Works just fine with my shettie and Highland who are kept apart.
