I want to pruchase some electric fencing to allow me to set up a circle of electric fencing for my overweight pony, in the field with his current fieldmate. Can anyone advise:

How big should a make the circle and what length of fence with this require?
Where's a good place to buy everything I need for the fencing either as a set or individually (ebay?!) - energiser, tape/rope? (2 strands or 3>), and posts - I have some post but will need more.
How much will it cost me altogether?

Thanks

A lot of companies do an 'electric fence starter kit', which contains posts, tape, and energiser and all the other accessories you need. Ebay do have plenty as have looked at recently, as do Rideway and Robinsons. You would be looking at around £150.

Rather than setting up a circle can you not just create a strip down one side of the field? Curves and electric fencing do not always go together as harder to tension.

I found paddock perfection more knowledgeable than farmcare (although they were very good and service was excellent), he has horses and uses electric fencing on all his land, really knows what he is talking about! A starter kit would be adequate for you to fence off a small area (but remember to make sure that wherever you put it your pony can get to some shade through the summer) and would have everything that you need.
