I could do with some technical help with buying a new energiser for our field.
There are so many different energisers and so much different technical information.
We just need an energiser that will run a fairly straight piece of fence so we can strip graze.
Any help would be gratefully received

It depends on how long it is and how much undergrowth there is. The higher the joule rating the stronger the Zap and the longer the fence can be. I had a Hotline Gemini 80 which was 1.2J and was good value.

Have a look at the mole valley farm D models as well (D1000, D2000, D35000). They are competitively priced, and run off a 12V battery or mains. Also have an automatic shutoff if the battery drops too low, which can be very useful to avoid destroying your batteries (from someone who has ruined a few by deep discharging them). IMO, you can't have too much zap, so it's really a question of weighing output Joules vs. cost (and how quickly you need to change the battery - the more Joules, the faster it drains).

Go for output Joules of at least 1J. Anything below won't give a good zap. This rules out most of the energizers with internal D-cell or dry 9V batteries, but I'd avoid those in any case as you have to keep buying new batteries for those. I've had a few Geminis but they've always died on me within a few years (under warranty and replaced, but still!), so I now have a different brand.

You can make the most of your setup by having a long earth stake deep in the ground, fence tape in good nick, and keeping the tape isolated (from vegetation, touching wooden posts etc.). I also like to have two batteries to swap between, so the horses are never left without a working fence.

Thanks everyone, it's looking like 100 and 120 metres of fence and we are going to buy new tape to run and we do try to look after it.
A decent zap is what we want as one of the ponies is Welsh and does try to test it.
Will have a look at the mole valley ones

Do make sure you have a long earth stake too. That will make a huge difference to the power. Ideally a metre or as near to that as you can get.
