We're putting up our first 1000m of fencing and i'm going to use electric rope on top of the post and rail to keep horses away from the fence. I was going to use retractable electric thingies for the gateways but thought it would be much easier if the electric rope was attacted to the gate with a kind of Z plate half fixed to the gatepost and half to the gate so when the gate is closed the connection is fixed but as soon as you open the gate the connection breaks and the rope stays on the gate and opens with it. Does this make sense?

Cookies to anyone who got this far.

So, where can I buy this fantastic Z plate innovation from?! Surely someone must make one but i've searched online and can't find anything that will do the job.

Just thought this would save needing that second pair of hands when taking horses in/out through a gate that also has an electric fence over it.
