Electric Fencing Question

Hi. I am thinking about dividing one of my two fields up with electric fencing, so that i can rest one of my fields to let the grass grow, as i have two horses, and my grass is getting a little sparce!!

I have a 15h Welsh Section D mare aged 13 and a 16.3h British Hanoverarian mare aged 15. Both of them dont really get on with other horses so i have always kept them separate, the thought of the vets bills always putting me off!!

Hence, my question, about electric fencing, i have never had any dealings with it before and was hoping for some/any advice please, before i take the plunge and go out any buy.

What exactly did you want to know? Possibly your best bet is to speak to your local supplier and give them measurements.
 
Make the top strand high enough that when they are rugged, it still comes into contact with flesh ;) or do as a horsey friend recommended, attach tape to the front of their rug :D

Use the best quality stuff you can afford, buy cheap, buy twice (or at least with my fence wrecker!!)

I feel you NEED decent corner straining posts (ie wooden posts put in the ground properly) to get anywhere - in fact we don't use poly posts at all on our fencing, just found them CRAP!

If I had to choose, I'd buy field guard, I just find the lesser stuff a bit useless.
 
I'd recommend www.johnunderwoods.com (there is a johnunderwoods.co.uk site but they're a different company and the customer service is terrible!). They know their stuff, its good quality, fair price and tends to be delivered pretty quickly in my experience. Whenever I've needed advice on which energisers to use etc they're always helpful. I've dealt with John directly for a few years and he always answers the phone evening or weekends. Worth a look!
