My old cob who had always had wire fencing till electric put up, wouldn't eat out of haynets for ages after touching it for the 1st time, but he was the only one who I have ever know to react badly to electric fencing.

My mare is very sensitive to it. She can't stand close to the fence at all, but I have noticed some ponies don't care and munch on grass in neighbouring paddock under the fence. I can't even tie my mare to a gate or fence anywhere near the field, even if it is not directly connected to the said field because she goes mental. It is partly because some idiot once left it on when we were bringing the horses in, told me it was off, so I tied her up by gate next thing I know rearing upset mare, so in a way I don't blame her.

my youngster got stung a couple of time, he soon learnt, when he got stung, he gave a buck/kick at it, but now he just respects it and keeps away!

I would leave him to figure it out by himself, but just keep an eye on him.
