Im having to replace some of the existing 'permanent' electric fencing at the yard. I have a good energiser but need a battery and more posts and tape. Leisure Batteries are so expensive but Ive read conflicting advice about car batteries. Can I use a car battery? Also any good websites for decent 40mm tape that doesnt cost the earth. Oh and anyone got the insulators with butterfly fasteners on them. If so where did you get them from?

Its quite open and windy in the field and I find the wind blows the tape and the posts look like they are going to blow over, we do have wooden fence posts every so often to try and stabilise the fence but just wondered if anyone has any tips on how to prevent or minimise this.
Thanks in advance :D

Yep we use a car battery with an energiser. Works absolutely fine.

We get all of our tape, poles, clips etc from ebay. Shop around on there and you can get some really good deals. Way cheaper than in the shops!!

I have always used a 12v car battery. I usually get the cheap ones from Halfords but recently took one of my sons old car and it has lasted the longest. Or find a friendly garage but even then they may charge you, I found Halfords was the best.I just recharge overnight when its getting low and always have a spare. I have been told charge it and turn off then give it another short charge to boost it. They do last for a couple of years + if looked after. The good one off sons car is about 3 years old.

Agree Ebay for posts/tape. Energiser shop on line usually cheaper too. I like my countryman and they do different types £££ depending on amount to be energised. They are well made too.

Good luck.

Thanks for replying.

Thats good about the battery, we have a spare one that will do for now.
How long do you normally get between charges? Its a long run of fencing.
We use a leisure battery at the mo and it goes for months, even then it isnt flat.
