Electric fencing

First of all I need to aaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Right, my troublesome welsh sec a is a regular Houdini! I'm desperately trying to keep the weight of him thru a starvation paddock/ muzzle/ stabling

The electric fencing doesn't seem to do doing the trick - he keeps breaking thru. Today he's snapped three posts.

So tomorrow I'm gonna take all the fencing down and re do all the wire to ensure a better connection...as the current fencing doesn't be seeming to work!!

So I'm looking for opinions - electric tape or electric rope type? Is there a maximum length it will work for? Anything else I can do to ensure maximum fence zap!

What is the maximum fence length your energiser says it can run? I have used rope and tape in the past, depends how windy the area is, tape flaps and comes loose but if you do have a horse likely to try and break through the fence then tape is safer.

For the best current ensure the fencing is not touching any wooden posts and there is no undergrowth touching the fence. If you need to join the fence then use proper jointers appropriate for the type of fence you are using. Make sure there are no rusty elements anywhere (usually gate handles)

Use two or three strands of fence, makes it appear more robust

I'm gonna appear a bit dim now... We rent the grazing from an old farmer and the electric runs from a mains switch

I much prefer tape to rope as I feel it is a lot safer. Also make sure nothing is earthing out (no vegetation, wooden fencing, etc touching the tape). It might also be worth investing in a new earth stake. Buy a large (2m plus) one and bang it well into the ground and chuck a few buckets of water around it.

Yes but it still has to go through an energiser, is that yours or the farmers?

Errm I assume his, as we just flick an electric switch on the stable block wall to turn on or off ?!
