Electricity telegraph pole injuries

One of my horses recently received a nasty gash to his hock from an electricity pole in the field ( It looks like a telegraph pole but has two steel cables that extend from the top of the pole to the ground).

The Electricity Board has now covered the cables with plastic cones, but has anyone else had a horse/livestock injured in this way?

I know of someone who turned there horses out in fields with electricity cables running through. When we had the bad storms the other year the cables fell and killed a horse. The electricity board won't pay any compensation as it's seen as an act of God so not covered by anyone insurance

Years ago we had a horse cut to the bone from one of those cables. Since then we have fenced them off, although I seem to remember that the electricity board came to do it once.

When young I remember a horse breaking its neck running into one of the telegraph pole stays. There was a group of ten or so horses play galloping about and unfortunately for this one its head went one side of the stay and its body the other. The stays were fenced round after that. The pole gained quite a lean as well.

Thats so very sad.

I used to keep horses on a telegraph pole field and those thick metal cables gave me the shivers. We fenced around it to keep horses away.

We had telegraph poles in the field at the previous place. Didn't mind the 2 that were just a post, but one of them had those stays so I fenced them away from that one. The plastic covering on the wire was very worn and sharp.

I remember the pony I was riding in a field bolting with me and she ran towards the telegraph pole but the wires ran down to the floor from higher up, so she was able to run through it but I hit it and came off. I was lucky not to hurt myself.

I inherited a pole with the metal stay lines in one of my fields. I use a bit of electric tape to keep the horses off the wire.

A couple of years ago the electricity board moved a pole from the road side of the fence into one of my fields. I asked them to fence off the metal wires and they put some post and rail fencing up.

Slightly different, years ago i had a foal that panicked when the electricity board helicopter flew very low checking their cables, he ran straight into the pylon/pole, slicing his face open. Large wound involving the vet x 2 visits. i contacted the electricity company and they paid the bill and the pilot sent apologies and put a warning that it was an equestrian area for future flying.
