We are riding distances of about 20km & my boy sweats but cannot be forced to drink so what brand of paste / supplement would you recommend?

He wont eat feed that has danolin in, nor will he eat top spec supplemements so he is rather fussy! Whoever said cobs eat anything has never met mine!

You need to find a way to get him drinking, giving electrolytes will make him more dehydrated if he does not take on fluids in some form, try sugarbeet water as suggested, just putting some apples chopped up into water may help, carrots or whatever he does like.
Sloppy feeds can have electrolytes added but you need to get him used to this before any long rides so you do not put him off, use a little salt each day to get him used to the taste, gradually increase it but not so much he will not eat.

I usually use Equine America electrolytes, the horses seem happy to eat this in their feeds and it is available locally.

Heavy Sweat

Heavy Sweat Horse Supplement - Horse First

Heavy Sweat Supplement by Horse First will rehydrate a dehydrated horse and correct electrolyte imbalance caused during sweating by replacing the body salts.

This product is reasonably priced and not added stuff like sugars.

As someone said - try sugar beet water, always worked well with my non-plain-water-drinkers at events. Its also good to add the electrolytes to it as its sugary so helps them absorb I believe. I make my own electrolytes - just mix 1/2 lo-salt and 1/2 normal table salt together. Far far cheaper!
