I had a go at Elem 48 for the first time at the weekend, and I really found the half 20m circles in counter canter difficult. Anyone got any schooling tips to make this easier please?

If its any consolation, I hate that test. The simple changes on the track right after the counter canter circles are a killer!

This entire test is the main reason why I finally bit the bullet and went affiliated this week! I had the chance to do E48 unaffil on the Saturday or do a prelim affiliated at the same venue on the Sunday

Read through test - trot bits were okay. Got to canter part and said noooooooo way!

Loads of practice I'm afraid. When you change from your true canter to your counter canter just slow it down slightly to allow your horse more time to balance him/herself. On the circle don't go for too much counter flexion, keep the true bend and gradually go for more counter flexion when you feel your horse is getting more confidence. Don't change your own position from the true canter position.

Don't always practice on a circle, do loops down the long side and ask for outside flexion and back again when you return to the track. Obviously the judge isn't looking for counter flexion in the test (some one correct me here if I'm wrong) but as an exercise at home it will help with confidence and suppleness.

By counter flexion I mean flexing away from the true canter lead, just in case I confused you there!

When I'm looking for shows to go to, I scan the schedules and if I see that as one of the elems, I move on. I know its a bit petty but I did it once and it was a disaster! Give me elementary 43 or 57 anyday!
