Elephant Grass/Miscanthus bedding

I liked it a lot for my smaller pair (before they were retired to grass 24/7), one is a 14.2 gelding and quite tidy, the other 15.2 mare and inclined to trash the place. Worked great for giving them a nice bed (either with mats or deep litter) and seemed to last quite a while. Not sure if it's height related or what, but my bigger pair (17hh mare and 17hh filly still growing) destroy the stuff. I end up using ridiculous quantities and they both drag hay into their beds as much as possible, as if they're not comfortable with just the miscanthus. Have had to resort to lots of big flake shavings, deep beds, on mats, to keep them clean

Have used it in the past and it was OK. Is more obsorbant than shavings but is far from dust free (but that might depend on the manufacturer). Pony at my yard for a short period is currently on box rest so has borrowed one of my stables. Owner just bought a couple of Fennington Fibre bags of this stuff and it is very dusty when putting down. Once down it settles.

You may find your horse / pony will try to eat it as well (even though most manufaucturers coat their products to eliminate this problem - it didn't stop my greedy lot )

Also tends to rot down on the muck heap quicker and is easier to muck out. Very good for a semi / deep litter bed too.

Oh, and it's often cheaper than other beddings.
