Hi - as part of my prize for winning the competition in last months Horse magazine I am getting an Elevator bridle. (As well as my lesson with Robert Smith!

Anyway I just wondered if anyone has one and can advise me on the sizes. Jenny is 16hh but has a medium to smallish head. She takes a full size Barnsby bridle but only a cob size Stubben. I just want to make sure I order the right size when it comes. Also does anyone know what the nut brown leather is like. I have a caramel coloured saddle (you can see it in my signature) and so would want something to blend in with that. I think standerd havana is probably too dark and wondered what the nut brown looked like.
Also am I right in thinking it comes without reins? Which would mean I would have to buy them seperately. Unless by some fluke the colour matches the reins I already have.
Does anyone have one of these bridles and do they like it? The Barnsby bridle I use is already shaped and padded round the crown so I assume it will be similar to what I already have. The only thing I've found with the Barnsby is the padding becomes 'squashed' over time and so its not as springy as it once was and wondered if the padding in the elevator fared a bit better.
Thanks, AJ

Can't help with the colour as I have havana, but they are super bridles. Beautiful quality leather and my padding has never squashed down . Grey in my sig was a TB x Welsh with quite a fine head- hers was Cob with lots of room to spare

Bailey is a MW Hunter type with a big head, his is X Full but he would have been fine in a Full. I would imagine Cob would be perfect

I've had an elevator for 4 yrs now and love it to bits, my horses all go much better in it than conventional bridles. ( as demonstrated by my 20yo coming back into work after injury and being very heavy in the hand until i put the elevator back on him!!!) I have a cob size with a full size browband for extra relief, it fits my 15hh and my 16.1 wbxtb well. when i bought it they were very accomodating and you could mix and match different size bridles to make your own! they do stretch a bit but i'm so pleased with mine still, though only use it for schooling on the flat and dressage competitions!
spect you would get away with a cob size. i think they come in havana or black and you can get white pipping on them if you so desire!!

I have a new havana which is very dark brown. It came without reins. My horse is 15.3 ID/TB with a broad forehead but finer nose, he has a full size but with an extra full browband which fits him perfectly.

Thanks everyone.

Its sounds like I'm getting a fantastic prize all round. I'm so excited about my lesson and it sounds like the bridle is going to be fab too. Maybe I should just ring the company. It sounds like the cob size might be the best from what you have all said but I wonder if I should ask their advice just to be sure. I could then check about the reins and order some if they don't come with it.
Thanks again.

I have a full size with an extra full browband for my 15.3 and my sister's 14.2 has a cob with a full browband. The havana is very dark brown, so dark that people always think it's black, so I would go for the nut. They are really lovely bridles and last very well, and the reins they sell are really good too. I've got the inner grip ones which look smart but are grippy like rubber reins. My sister has the eventa reins which are super grippy and great for xc/hunting.
