I have just had a phone call from my fields owner saying that Ellie is still trotting about the field calling for Chad and working herself up into a lather.

What can I do? I am in tears now thinking that she is so upset and I don't know how I can calm her down.

Where are you based? If I'm close I'l nip over with one to keep her company for the night?! Or perhaps someone else on here would do the same?

Unfortunately Shetties owners wouldn't have it

Will she calm down? She was unusually attached to Chad, in the last five years her last owner had her she never formed a bond with another horse like this.

I'm sorry this isn't much good now but ideally she should have been introduced to a new companion before Chad left. Could she be stabled overnight? Would this calm her down, avoid injury?
I'm not really surprised that a shettie she has never met 2 fields away isn't helping her. Please when her new companion arrives tomorrow don't put them in together immediately unless they are both unshod behind. Put them into adjoining fields or at least separate them with an electric fence. The new arrival should take her mind off her loss. We had 2 mares who had lived together for 20 yrs and been 'inseparable' when the younger one had to be pts as an emergency. They did have 2 other field companions but the thing that the distracted the remaining one best was when we got a new mare about 3 weeks later and put her into an adjoining field. That gave them all something else to think about!
