Can't you just say, on Open, when they are to be returned? For the benefit of everyone interested in this case. Or do you not know?

I think given the fact that this has not been publicised it is not up to me to broadcast it - although when I speak to Redwings again I shall ask if this can be made known in the public domain!

Just to add that unless the information was marked confidential or had an embargo date on the release of such information then the date can be given publicly.

I for one am well aware of the case and it being prejudiced, hell I did study law!
Does privvy mean you then I take it and no-one else?
I just thought that if everyone was aware of dates then it would help people to co-ordinate their plans better if they knew what timescales they had to work to.

For the record though I am very disappointed about the news with regard to the horses and hope that their is a silver lining to this cloud.

Ovidius has not been given permission to pass this information on.

Don't make this post about attacking her please.

I was not attacking I was merely asking and if people had stated that in the first place then there would have been no need for me or anyone to have asked.

From me, A 13 year old. Opinions please?

Dear Judge

Today it was brought to my attention that eleven donkeys and eighteen Shetland ponies are to be returned to their owner Jamie Gray, owner of Spindles Farm.

I am thirteen years of age and I can clearly tell that should this be done, it was a waste of time caring for them. We have all been shown what this man can possibly do (thirty-one dead equines found on his land and three later put to sleep once removed from his property), and if the horses are sent back then how many horses lives could it take before he will be punished by being not allowed to take care of animals again? I can only begin to imagine what the poor horses went through. Covered in there own mess and being surrounded by dead equines.

I am sure you will understand many people supported the numerous charities that worked around the clock to look after these poor treated yet wonderful animals. Donations flooded in at the dozens and many volunteers worked around the clock for a very long time making sure these animals received the care they deserved. Many horses had diseases and were major under weight.

I sincerely hope you re-consider your decision. What Jamie Gray did to all those poor animals, is sick!

Cool. I was assuming that it was in the public domain which was why Redwings told you; hence my reason for asking.

The name of the judge says it all, what do expect !! Thats why this country is heading down the plug hole. Probably this is normal behaviour for the judge !!

Think you might have missed it. Sure it will be on the late news as well. Really glad this has gone high profile now. They showed shetlands that would have to go back. One heavily pregnant and the other with a 4 week old foal. It is truly heartbreaking if they have to be returned.

News Bulletin - Esther's Rescue
Redwings was shocked to learn of the distressing news that James’ Gray’s plea to have the rescued horses, ponies and donkeys returned to him, has sadly been upheld.
Following the rescue operation which took place on 9th January in Amersham, Bucks, 21 horses, ponies and donkeys came into Redwings’ care including Esther the donkey foal who has since been a familiar face in the media.

Our understanding is that on Friday 4th April, a judge at Oxford Magistrates Court ruled that 29 ponies and donkeys be returned to Gray's care, whilst another 80 or so be sold at auction in May.

We believe that the equines currently in our care are a mixture of those to be returned immediately, and those which are to be auctioned off.

Redwings is experienced in sending veterinary and horse handling staff, and vehicles, to rescue operations but this has been described by many of the 30 Redwings staff who participated as one of the saddest cases that we have witnessed. This is therefore understandably a difficult for all our staff, veterinary, welfare and horse care teams.

Redwings’ two senior vets have between them over 35 years of dedicated equine welfare experience and have encountered many complex cases over this time – their concern particularly extends to the donkeys, the most sensitive of equines. The vets that attended the site will use this expertise to continue working with the RSPCA and other established welfare organisations in this time of despair to ensure that we get a just end to this case and that the equines end up in our re-homing care.

Despite their despair, Redwings staff will continue to valiantly provide the dedicated care these horses, ponies and donkeys need every day until they have to leave the Sanctuary. We cannot thank colleagues enough and know how disappointed they and our supporters equally must be.

Our priority at present remains providing the best possible care for these equines while they are with us and we can assure you that we are also working with equine welfare colleagues to see what we can do to help best secure their future. We hope to be able to provide more information as and when we can so please check our website for regular updates and information on how you can help.

In the meantime we thank you for your unyielding support and ask only for your patience and continued help and encouragement. The dedication and support provided by the public has been much valued and we will see that this backing does not go to waste.

I would have assumed the same.

Dear forum users

While we understand that the feelings of many people run high around the case of Jamie Gray and the horses at Spindle Farm, we would like to remind you that the court case is still active – ie has not been heard in a court of law yet — and it is against the law to discuss aspects of the case which will be evidence during the case.

Please not post anything on the forum which may prejudice the case — ie pertaining to the condition of Mr Gray’s horses or your views on his innocence or guilt. Your posts could cause the case to be abandoned if the judge feels there can no longer be a fair trial.
