Has anyone else has any embarrassing falls?
I remember once I was going xc and all was going well. We'd gone clear so far and were just about to head through an open gateway into another section when my horse stopped dead and spun to the side! As we were in a nice forward canter this rather shocked me and I went straight out the side door! I was fine and was helped back on by a steward, but gained quite a few time penalties! Oops! :o

Yes... I was warming up over a 30cm jump in a SJ lesson and my bro and this guy I liked was watching.. I do not know how.. but I fell off.. To make it worse, I think my horse only approached at a trot and didnt refuse.. I dont think I, or the people around me, have laughed/cried so much.. I felt like a right numpty! :D

I was once bucked off in front of the saddler who had come out to check the saddle - which was a perfect fit by the way! Not too embarrassing if it hadn't been for the horse staying in the arena and me landing on the other side of the fence! That fall really did hurt :(

A couple spring to mind they used to do prix caprilli (sp?) (might be showing my age here) which was basically a dressage test with 2 small jumps, can't remember if I got jumped off or the horse stopped and I plopped off, quite embarrassing!

The other was about 10 years ago at Powderham Horse Trials with an established Novice horse. Warming up for SJ and trotted into cross pole horse stopped and I sailed over head and demolished cross pole! I think we came 10th in our section!

Got a couple.... playing pony games at kiddies riding school xmas party couple of years ago. all 5ft7 of me could manage to get on a 13hh (welsh) pony then when I did she cantered off, and I went straight off the other side.

Second, I was at Oasby a couple of years ago on Henry, made it to the XC, got to the third fence, first go at it he was two busy gorping at the lorry park and missed the jump, second time round he didnt realise it was a parrallel/spread thingy, put the anchors on, threw me over the other side (thank god!) and p*ssed off back to the trailer. Worst of it was I didnt have any bruises, or not even any dirt on jodphurs!

Just thought of another two - based on the above!

Henry decided he didnt want to do a dressage test one day in an indoor arena, we were doing a 20m circle on right rein, he suddenly decided to leg it to the left to try and get out of the (shut) gate. Needless to say I came off.

Finally, I was at a PC ODE in April, tiny cross pole, Trigger chucked me over his head onto the jump, I landed on the poles and had the wings come crashing down on top of me.

Told this one before but it's still cringeworthy!

Got knocked out in the water jump at Scone BE, held the course up, got carted off &, after complaining of a sore pelvis, the Dr told me to drop my breeches in front of the small crowd that gathered! :o:o

First time my grey went xc, he refused to leave the water jump (he is a strange animal), to the point that he reared up and off I went. Most embarrassed! And husband and friend were gutted to have missed it!!

I was jumping the amateur 2nd rounds and went into the lead int he jump off, cantered through the finish, horse turned, I didn't haha

Thankfully I wasn't eliminated as I got back on before leaving the ring!

How about falling in the water with pony (small rotational), emerging looking like a creature from the deep (complete with duckweed) and finding about 20 people all standing around the jump laughing at me?

Or perhaps the fact that I then got back on, and finished the xc, without the removal of duckweed? :p

A more recent one would be where Horse and I fell on the flat xc, very hard ground and no studs = us narrowly avoiding squashing two course walkers :o

Not too embaressing but very annoying! We had gone to walk the xccourse the day before, it was about 60 miles away from home. Next day we boxed up, got there, warmed up over the sj, and out we went onto the course. Fell off at fence 2! It was an open pony club comp, so was competing against 10 year olds on little ponies, I am nearly 40 on a 16.2!!!!

And the other one was, we were having a great gallop along our local beach, splashing through the waves, when bang! My stirrup leather snapped. I toppled off over the side straight into the sea, Benson carried on right up into the main part o the beach, then stopped thinking maybe he had lost something! Yep, ME!!!

yeah went spondered ride and was having the BEST time ever and jumping all the bonus ones which where like 1.10 and came to the normal ones around 2.6/9 next thing i know im on the floor and shortly after at the JR on a board with a broken coller bone and sepected spinal injuries.... that was embassing :o

I went for a Christmas morning hack, goodness knows why as I was extremely hungover.
Mid-canter Henry did his party piece, dropped his shoulder and span 180, I went sailing over his head and landed at his feet. He paused for a second before legging it  I couldn't get near enough to grab him and he ended up cantering through the village with me in hot pursuit!
Luckily enough there was no traffic on the roads as it was so early on Christmas day, however several different residents decided to 'help' by giving chase in their cars and we also managed to pick up a police escort. Not one person thought to offer me a lift mind you, and by the time I caught up with the merry procession my horse was grazing on the cricket square :o with a policeman standing guard, whilst several people tried and failed to get near him :D I did think of denying all knowledge, but the riding boots, hat and distinct lack of horse gave me away!
He was eventually caught, I was legged up by some kind soul and we made our way home. He was so excited by his unscheduled adventure, he tried a few more times to dump me, but sheer embarassment from earlier kept me wedged firmly on.

Second time over trot poles on just backed baby TB, all well until OH rolled 2 poles together, just to see if I was still awake H jumped the poles the height of the jump wings, having given no indication that he was going to do any more than just trot over them, cue me sat on th floor with him gently blowing on me as if to say that's not where you should be. Cue ear bashing from OH about being complacent when riding a baby:(

I have too many to count! In response to "does getting bucked off in a dressage test count?";
I once fell off three times in a dressage test on an 11.2 pony...
The 1st time, he plunged his head down mid trot circle to eat grass, depositing me on the floor.
The 2nd time, he cornered too shaply (think Prince Phillip Cup mounted games pony showing off his 'moves'), and deposited me on the floor.
The 3rd time, I managed to get him into canter :D But then he threw an almighty buck and, you guessed it, deposited me firmly on to the floor!
I was only 8 though, and you gotta admire the determination (me and the bl**dy pony!)

I too have been bucked off going up the centre line in a dressage test! I landed on my feet, dragged her to X and saluted  to say I was annoyed is an understatement!!!

I also have come off in a dressage test. Indoors, big buck and worse still I couldn't catch her afterwards. Judge had to get out of car and help!

Other time, PN, clear XC, 2nd last the water jump. Ponio got there, went to jump in over log and then suddenly put down - me straight over the head into water! Commentator (Hamish Lochore) says "oh, don't think meant to do that!". Everyone laughing, including me, scambled back on and got through 2nd time, over last and finished. :)

I have a few,
Fell off in free walk on a long rein in a dressage test - mini spook me a little bit too relaxed-gutted!
Came off in front of what felt like a million people at festival of champions when birchenley was still open in the working hunter, was doing a lovely round then came to the water tray which was placed on 2 bales of straw and had rubber duckies in it and it was a case of going going going ........NO ! flew over his head and landed on opposite side of the fence thought "phew at least I'm not wet" looked down realised I still had hold of my reins and the bridle was on my head(felt like slow motion)-Horse shot backwards -martingale still attached- wooooops dragged through the fence- don't ask why I didn't just let go of the reins. Attacked by rubber duckies and very wet -seating jam packed full of people laughing a lot what can you do but take a bow and leg it!!Oh dear!
Have also had a really pathetic fall xc at a trekehner -wasn't commited totally my fault horse stopped- I practically threw myself on the floor (pathetic I know) and rolled into the ditch and couldn't turn over to get up -looked like a turtle lied on my back wedged in aditch with my arms and legs flailing!

not sure this will work as never posted a video before but thought i would give it a go :p

Probably my most stupid/embarassing/unecessary of falls

First time jumping with no stirrups from trot (this was like 5 years ago now) (how embarassing!) but bear in mind this horse had THE most uncomfortasble trot ever (made a couple of friends feel so sick they had to get off when trotting her with no stirrups lol!)

But yes very stupid fall, bascially got bounced off!

What made it worse was that i fell off more than once doing the same thing in different lessons :D:p:rolleyes:

Riding instuctor just ****ed himself everytime

What gets me is the way the chestnut just looks at the camera as if to say" what the fu+k happend "LOL :D

My horse and I were doing our first comp of the year last year, and I was very nervous having not finished the season very well. We went down a size, so the jumps were only just scraping in at 2'3... I was riding like a complete plonker, got to the 4th fence and saw a lovely stride and suddenly my brain imploded. Instead of sitting quietly and waiting, I launched myself over my horse's head a stride early and took the back of the oxer out with my own head... My poor horse slammed on the brakes and veered off to the entrance looking for someone to come and tell him what on earth just happened! To add insult to injury, I headbutted the pole hard enough to leave a bruise across my forehead...

Or this one- I stayed on this part... As I circled away to have a second attempt my stirrup leather snapped and the iron started banging his stomach so he shot off up the hill at Burnham Market full pelt! I couldn't stop him and I could circle him, so I bailed. As I bailed, he spooked and my well planned fall out the back turned into a flip over his shoulder in front of his hooves! Next day I had games, and had huge bruises all up my legs and arms- my poor teacher thought I'd been beaten up!

ETA: Notice how my horse keeps an eye one the camera and his ears pricked throughout.... A poser til the last!

I had a pretty spectacular fall at a 3 day a few years back which was shown several times on Sky Sports and repeatedly to this day on Horse and Country.

Even better...Someone has since posted it on youtube and it now has over 100,000 hits - it doesn't get much more public than that!

In 2007 at Eland Lodge, I was on a horse which stopped a lot, I was going over a practice jump, he not only jumped it massive, but also bucked as we went over catapulting me up and out of the saddle. I landed on my feet and broke both heels and my talus, what made matters worse was as I was lying on the landing side F-ing and Blinding, someone came over and asked if I could move away from the practice jump. As you can imagine they were coloufully asked to perform an anatomically impossible act!
