We went for a gorgeous hack today during my long lunch break, was happily mooching along a road with a hugeee long queue of traffic behind me (including the groom from my yard) all giving me evils.

Horse decides to stop right there and then to do his business - right in front of a bus stop with 5 particularly fed-up looking people (there was a bus in the traffic a way back) waiting.

This was accompanied with a fair bit of wind from his backside and standing still for about 2 long long minutes.

Felt the need to share my humiliation, throughout which I couldn't stop giggling.

That's O.K. my mare once stopped on the main road through the Isle of Wight to have a long wee, that then rolled down the hill onto everyones wheels

Your horse stops for the bathroom - I guess some people here would dismount and wipe their bottom for them!

We were off to work on the train the other day, my bloke had got a bit of a "bad gut" as he puts it... afterwards he told me he thought he was going to have an "accident" but managed to hold it in ... now that would be REALLY embarassing!!

lololol!!! Quite true... My mare did a massive poo in her water bucket today... soo gross!!! Made me feel sick! She was pretty annoyed too, as was quite thirsty...

If I had been the rider behind you, I would not have been able to resist a wicked moment. I would have shouted "and thats not the horse".

Horses can poo and walk or better still trot at the same time!!
Sorry, but you sound like the sort of 'horse back rider' that gives us a bad name.
I couldn't be doing with a long que of traffic stuck behind me, i'd trot on and get out their way, thanking them for waiting when they do go past!

I was hacking the other day and horse poo-ed out side someones house (at end of drive) and they were in garden, man sed "OOy can you pick that up please it is disgusting!" I replied sorry do not have a doggy poo bag that is big enough, he was ranting and raving and started coming down the drive, I left speedily and shouted put it on your roses mate!
I am sure it would was away with all this rain we are having!

I`m afraid I would have to agree.

Pagancloughie - I can not believe you did that - how classless! If my horse had done that outside someones house and they asked me, I would have happily gone back after my ride and picked up.

Much the same with the thread starters - horse people moan so much about everyone else, but as a group they pretty deserve it!!!!

Have to say I let B stand still when he poos. He doesnt poo and walk in the field, so why should he when he's out? (but genrally he doesnt poo or pee when being ridden! saves it all for when we get back!)

But I agree about the traffic build up. I always dart into a drive way to let cars past if theres not enough room for them to pass with me on the road.

As for pooping outside someones house, a pony I used to share did that once, and the owner of the house came running out with a shovel saying "ooh! excellent! that will be great on my flowers!"!!!! lol!

My horses can do what ever they like in the field - when they are with me it is my rules. If we lived by your logic your horse could lie down, eat, buck, bolt as that is what they do in the field......................

have to say I have more of a partnership with my pony than a 'I am the boss, what I say goes' relationship. We discuse things and come to a decision thats good for both of us. Sometimes he likes to choose the route we go on a hack, sometimes I do. Sometimes he asks if we can have a canter, sometimes I do. Doesnt mean he always gets it his way. If what could be a dangerous situation comes along then yes, I take control (ie if we are having a blast and he starts to get a bit above himself and there are other people out with us, or we're running out of track, then I tell him to calm down- but genrally he knows when he's ment to stop)

That might sound irresponsible to you, but I have a great realtionship with my pony, and we understand each other very well. (not saying I'd be like that with every horse or pony, each are diffrent, but genrally I'd like to think I'm my pony's friend, not his boss)

each unto there own!

Ummm, no!

She listens and she does as she's told. Animals that don't are dangerous to themselves as much as to other people.

GT - even the best horseman in the world isn't gong to stop an excited horse from pooping.

However I do agree, if someone complained in our village, I would probably go and clean it up after my ride.

It is not the pooping I am going to control - it is the fact I would go back and clean it up.

Also if my horse stopped for 15-20 seconds and would not move of the leg, he would have a hiding for as long as he stood still!

be glad you dont ride him then as if ANYONE decided to give my horse a "hiding" as you put it, you would be on the ground getting a bloody good "hiding" yourself

Seems crazy you are so blasé about your horse deciding to stop on the road!

i am not but unless you know where i am then you cant really comment.

i hack my horse on the road for all off 3 or 4 mins, quiet lanes with more than enough room for cars to pass.

my horse & i dont see a problem with it
