I have a good jumping mare (reg.ISH) and have my eye on a stallion (reg.Belgian Warmblood) for her but I was just contemplating breeding by embryo transfer instead so that I can keep my mare in competition. I have a suitable donor mare (proven broodmare) and aside from the cost of the semen what are the costs involved in collecting the eggs from my mare, producing the embryo & implanting the embryo into the donor mare? Any advice and pros/cons most welcome!

If you have your own recipient, then that will reduce costs. Packages for ET vary from £950 (cheapest I've seen), to £3000 or more per cycle.

How old is the donor, and the recipient? Having only one recipient might reduce success rates slightly, as it means you've got no room for error with regards to synchronising the mares' cycles.

Hope that helps

I asked this question of a local stud with a proven record of ET (not thinking of doing it but just curious and I'm friends with them!) and was told told upwards of £3k but that is only for the procedure with no guarantee of success, so like AndyPandy says, that's per cycle

This is where I do it in Holland. They are the best none with very good results.http://www.animalembryocentre.com/home.html
The prices are from 2008 and perhaps they will be a little different coming season.

First of all semen of the stallion. Inseminating is free. Flushing the mare + inplanting in the receipent mare is about 250 euro's. They have hundreds of mares so always 1 in the same cycle.
Only if you have a pregnancy the rest of the cost will follow and are a fee of 2500 euro's and the cost of the receipent mare.
The receipent mare is 1250 euro's. When you return her you will receive 800 euro's back.
