WELL DONE to Emma Hindle and Lancet, what a lovely harmonious test to watch.....but I agree with Jennie Loristan when she says that the judges were harsh on some of her marks!! Especially when you had Anky making several mistakes in her test and getting over 74%!

She did a wonderful test and was robbed I think. Sachmo was fab but spooked majorly in the piaffe - if anyone else had done that they would have been crucified. Similarly with Anky and the changes. But well done Emma. She rode beautifully and that walk. WOW. Lancet was brilliant.

Lancet and her made a stunning picture, and he had the best free walk by far.

I thought it was unfair the top 2 should end up there really with errors and disobediance, but such is dressage marking.

We didn't see it today, but have just been reading comments from on here out to OH who made a very valid point.
I am always ranting about how 'back story' and 'reputation' count at top level in dressage, and 'top' riders with errors get higher marks than 'less top' riders with good tests.
OH made these two points - 1) that is why dressage will never be really popular, people don't want to watch cliquey politics, they want to watch proper competition 2) if not remedied, then it should not be allowed to be an olympic sport - and olympian must, must MUST be judged on the day, there must be a fair chance for all. If dressage judges need to bring baggage with, then it should be ousted from the Olympics.
Harsh, but the view from outside.
What do we think?

I thought Emma did a great test, but for me Lancet looked a bit tired towards the end, so I don't think the judges were horribly wrong with her test. The judge at C gave her a significantly lower mark which must have pulled the percentage down and that does seem a shame, so perhaps they could come up with a system that eliminates highest and lowest marks?

I was shocked at Anky's mark. With all those mistakes, how did she manage it? I thought the German rider in third was better than Anky to be honest. Is there anywhere we can see the breakdown of the marks by movement?

I was more convinced by Isabell's mark, because although the spook was major, everything else was excellent.

From a tv viewing point Emma's test looked fluent, flowing half passes and 1 /2 tempi changes. And Lancet looked for the most part happy and relaxed in the whole body working well, particularly through the neck. Beautifully elegant and a pleasure to watch.

Much better that the US horse Mythulis who never ever worked through behind, absolutely no flexion ever through the hock / stifle but he was all WOW factor and flash with some mistakes behind in changes - yet a higher mark.

I did like JLC in the fact she could not conceal her surprise at some of the marks given.

He does have a point. It would also apply to gymnastics. Can't think of any other sports though!

I seem to remember from the Torville and Dean era that Figure Skating as well as Ice Dancing had a similar problem.

Satchmo was amazing for the rest of the test, but its incredible how he still managed to get such an amazing score when his resistance affected marks for at least 2 movements. It was such a shame and I nearly choked on my dinner!

But it must make other riders feel it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to get up there at the top. I still didn't think Anky's extensions were that great and overall they looked below their usual standard.

Jennie LC's commentating was classic, especially when Anky and Emma were on. loved it!

I thought Emma rode a nice test but the horse was a bit tense and you could really hear it in his breathing, thought Satchmo was a different class to the rest - pity about his moment in the piaffe (makes me happier that these things happen to the best riders though as well as me!!)

I feel the same. But the same was happening in the diving as well. Despite the Chinese not doing as good dives as some of the others and making mistakes they were never marked down for it. Neither in fact were the Russians.

Most of the judged events don't seem to be very fair and that is such a shame.
