EMW please read this

Unfortunately the article seems to mirror the general 'horsey' public's care and concern over this horrendous issue.
The equine world seems full of the 'use and throw away' mentality. What I cannot understand is that some folk continue to breed even when there is no profit in it.

I am all for classifying our British equines as Domestic. If you cannot afford to give a horse or pony the same care and welfare standards as our cats and dogs you should not own one IMO.

People get up in arms when dogs are shot, but horses, well, seems its OK for them. How many folks would have their pet cat or dog shot....yet send their horse to the hunt or abattoir? If shooting is humane, its good enough for Fido or Tiddles is it not?

I am sick to death of breeders who breed with no thought to the foal's life or welfare.Welsh breeders, breeders of Welshies not the whole nation! Seem to be bad for it, obviously not all of them are like that I have a friend who breeds welshies with no mares in foal for next year because of the problems, and her stallion is registered and is a top show winner many times over. Now that is responsible breeding. But there are too many people with a mare who is either getting old or has had to stop competing who just put them into foal, without stopping to think about what they will produce.

I also think the stallion owners should take some responsibility, mare owners inspect and check stallions for suitability, why don't all stallion owners do the same? I know some do, they are the good ones, when I was considering breeding Fany, the stallion's owner asked a lot of questions re temperament and breeding, which I was happy to answer. Decided against breeding her has could not guarantee the life of the foal due to ill health. But why can't all stallion owners do it? And why not get all stallions properly registered and tested? Too many stallions are "back door" kept entire but are not really of good enough conformation etc.

I am ranting so will stop. Just want to add the EMW do a fantastic job, one day I hope to adopt from them.

I feel sorry for the ponies on the welsh mountains/hills.The owners dont care as its just money for them. They leave the stallions out to run with the mares, then some of the ponies get rounded up and sent to auction.CRUEL!!!!! Needs to be stopped!!!!!
Then theres the racing industry Grrrrrr and the list goes on and on!!!!
