Not sure where 2025’s gone - I can’t believe we’ve almost seen half of it already.

I’m a very excited stangs this week as I’ve got a full weekend of showing - one day taking my boy out to his first show, and one day grooming for a friend who’s taking hers out showing too. Not expecting any results of value for either horse but it’ll be fun (hopefully!) and that’s all that matters.

What’s everyone else up to?

Hacking, always hacking! Tonight I’ve been asked to accompany the lady where coblet is now residing on a hack out on one of her endurance Arabs! Very excited indeed as it’s just a leg stretch ahead of his 80km ride on Sunday. Then tomorrow hacking with my daughter on the 2 share horses we regularly ride. The weather this week has been pants and we’ve not managed to get out all week so will be nice to blow some cobwebs away.

Got a pretty boring one this weekend - can't do anything on Saturday as the yard is closed the majority of the day for a reception of some sorts so we aren't allowed to be there, which means that my original plans of a pamper session have gone out the window - not much I can do about it though so just gotta suck it up :/

Hoping to go out for a training walk on Sunday if the weather stays decent with Rabbit - he's good as gold on short stints around the block, so now it's time to stretch the route and see if there are any holes in our training that I need to work on. Also the training walks are helping me shift a bit of weight and get fitter too which is a goal that I've been working on for a long time, so it's a win win for us both :) I've finally managed to get him some brushing boots for his front and back legs which he is cool as a cucumber about having on and off, being velcro'd closed and walking around in - bonus is that they're hi viz pink so are great for wearing on our walks as well as protecting his legs. He doesn't brush as far as I'm aware - but I like to protect his legs against bumps etc as he is still growing and if he does freak out and throw his legs around, I'd much rather he took a chunk out of the boots!

Baggs might come along for the walk if I can haul his spotty bum out of bed after his breakfast 😆

I’m flying home from holiday on Saturday night, which I would normally be disappointed about but it’s been a total washout of a week and absolutely not the relaxing trip that was needed.

This means that on Sunday I will be zooming along to the yard to see my best boy, and probably doing some in hand work in the arena. I’m planning to get back on board for the first time in about six weeks later in the week. He’s put on weight, and the YO has been working on his fitness in hand for me while I’ve been away, continuing the work I was doing with him before I left. I can’t wait to see him!

Cross posting as we seem to have 2 threads.

I've just put my name down for Robins first ridden outing in public. Intro 1 dressage test in July, so we will have a practice of some circles and straight lines. But I think this afternoon will be a nice hack out on the midget pony (Robin).

Reggie has the freelancer coming again tomorrow after a break last week. He's taken an interesting approach to his work in the last few days so I need her to help put him back in the right mind set. I better do some work with him today in prep for tomorrow - hopefully it's a positive session.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

@AppyLover1996 that's frustrating - I'm guessing you aren't on a bog standard livery yard.

HS2 have kindly closed a road because it's 1/2 term so Google has been directing tonnes of drivers down my single track yard road. Gave myself a kick to hack turbo cob up the road in enough high viz to be seen from space and my headcam. Pony behaved impeccably and so did 95% of drivers when they saw the camera - but not very relaxing.

He's off to a hunter trials on Sun. Ground is apparently good and I've signed up for trip hazard height with the kids. I'm not actually sure adults are supposed to be in the class but I'll go HC if any parents are upset. Might be OK with the next height, but we haven't done solid fences since last year. Also need to practice riding our prelim on grass because RC area dressage is on grass apparently - I'd assumed a surface.

Just hacking for me thought I had a lesson booked tonight but instructor and I got our wires crossed. Windy hack on Thursday but ponies were great thought there was going to be an iffy moment with a van driver but he turned out to be very pleasant, leaned out the window and asked what was best as road steep and narrow. D then stuck her head in his window and tried to give him a kiss which driver also seem to like and told her what a good girl she was 😅😂

After 5 weeks of rehabbing kicked horse am off to do just one BD test tomorrow. Sunday off to Greece for a week then hopefully return to get my one score needed for Areas before end of June. Tomorrow is a lower level just to measure how he is. It's been a funny old year so far with me out for 2 months after a fall, travelling a lot and now him having been off games.

We went xc schooling today- not a lot as ground is firm, just a run through water, over a ditch and a few combinations.
We haven't been xc in nearly 2 years!

Tomorrow I am dropping large ginger horse at school, I've admitted defeat with the lack of helpful ground people I have at home and don't want him to have a bad experience we need to undo.
So he's heading off to school for a few weeks, basically as a blank canvas, to be backed and then will come home to hack gently for the summer.

Pretty please can we all rain dance this week as I would very much like to go eventing next weekend!

No - which sometimes is great but sometimes in certain scenarios is completely rubbish.....

In less moany times - I've ordered some big heavy duty storage boxes to sort out the boys rugs at lunchtime! £50.00 including delivery - yes please :)

I'm pretty practical as I have held off buying Rabbit brand new rugs cause he's growing every time I blink, so I have been shoving him into Baggs rugs when needed (it's handy when your baby horse is at the stage that he fits into the same sized rugs!) but, am finally having to admit defeat now that poor Rabbit's arse hangs out like a right tart in some of them 🤣

So I need to go through and see what weight rugs Rabbit needs - although being a baby I'm only planning on getting him a spare 50g, a 200g and possibly a 300g, all without necks as he isn't clipped and tends to run on the slightly hot side. So in total he'll have two turnouts that are 50g, one turnout that is 200g and one turnout that is 300g, which I think will be plenty enough for him. I've not bothered with getting a zero fill nor a 100g as they are quite close to the 50g, so it made sense to just get another 50g as a spare.

I do know that I need to get Rabbit a fleece or two and potentially a stable rug in terms of indoor rugs as I call them - he does have a fleece of his own, but has outgrown it in spectacular fashion with only having 3 wears out of it - I was gutted when I popped it on him to find his wonderful bum hanging out - typically it's my fave rug as well which doesn't help the pain, and it's discontinued so double pain!! 😭

Parkrunning and hacking today.

Tomorrow H and I are going to our first proper SJ show since Mr Red died, so about 2 years ago. Not practiced, but we have done a hunter trial 2 weeks ago and an arena eventing last week, so we are ready-ish.

It is only a month since we had a SJ lesson there, so nothing too new.

I just find the collecting ring of a SJ show to be stressful and, since Mr Red died, I don't 'do' stress.

I have entered the 70, 75 and 80, so nothing too big, and it is a low key show (I think). Not sure cream breeches will fit! BF has not seen me in cream breeches yet. At 58, I'm not sure if he'll like them or not! (That is me at 58, he is younger LOL).

My other half will be in the lorry living as I’m with the horse so he’s above our height and I just get the comment ‘you can really see your grey hair from here’. Good luck everyone is competing and everyone else have a fab time what you’re doing.

We went out competing last week and horse qualified one of the championships we wanted to qualify the end of the year. Went for a nice hack yesterday after work and hopefully a hack later today and get some little tasks out of the way.

Good luck! Both with the SJ and the breeches.

The one and only time my other half has seen me ride, I wore the most ill fitting, cheapest cream breeches, panic bought off eBay, for a riding school dressage competition. It didn’t seem to put him off, although he’s still convinced horses are mad and dangerous. He’s not even met the horse I now own, although rather sweetly has offered to buy said horse an item of leather tack for our upcoming third wedding anniversary, which is apparently the leather one.

no showing for us this weekend with diva’s abscess, but as i’ve got a membership i’ve decided to drag lily to her first dressage test - my 3rd, the first 2 being over 10 years ago🤣

not massively hopeful as she’s still so green and stiff, but we had our first lesson yesterday which really gave me a confidence boost and showed me she’s a lot more capable at present than i thought, as am i! was very impressed that she didn’t care about the boards either, considering she’s scared of slightly greener leaves i thought she’d lose her mind🤣

enjoy everyone!

Love the offer re the wedding anniversary

Haven’t been in here in a long time, but…

Will take Mr H (horse ) for an amble this afternoon then tomorrow am entered in the 80cm in a local RC jumping (it’s like a xc spread out over a few fields but with knock down-able jumps. Only thing is it’s forecast wet and windy, ground might be too greasy for barefoot and/or jumps might be blowing over!

Retrospective write up of last BH weekend , we went on a classical dressage camp . Both in hand work as well as ridden. We are getting the hang of shoulder in and starting travers/renvers. Despite my bumbling efforts Mr H really tried hard and was getting the idea of the renvers (you could hear the cogs turning!)

Also we went on a 15k pleasure ride over jumps, Mr H absolutely loved it, towed me around the whole way and was still full of beans by the end . Pony is a star 🥰

@Reacher good to see you here! Sounds like an excellent BH weekend. I'm relieved to see some more rain on next week's forecast in the SE. Grass to grow and a hunt ride which could do with softer ground next weekend

Sold one horse 🥳 now down to owning only one horse. I had 4 last year so not a bad effort and my bank account is proud of me.
Went sjing today and won some money but really struggling to find any enthusiasm for eventing. Combination of things... ground being the big one. Though long range weather looks more promising for rain. 3yo is still progressing with being backed and have a friend coming tomorrow to help me so we can make some progress with long lining and leaning over. She lunges well, stands at mounting block but doesn't get long lining so need someone to give me a hand at front end.

Thankyou, I‘ve not posted much here as I didn’t think my activities were very exciting to read 🤣.

Hope you get a good amount of rain for your grass and hunt ride.

Not a lot happening here really. Continuing to work Myka every day. I’ll happily take consistent baby steps at the moment. Have now ridden without a chaperone a couple of times including in trot which felt an important milestone. I want to be able to crack on independently even if no one is around.

They both come over to say hi when I go to the field which is nice. Even though they are never fed by me, and my arrival always means work!

All of my hacking buddies are lame (people and equine) or on holiday so I thought I'd ride by myself but wussed out due to 40mph winds, so just did ground work. In a weird frame of mind this week despondent, overtired etc. feel like it's 1 step forward 2 steps back. Did manage to reinstate some leading manners so my tennis elbow isnt being yanked about unnecessarily and she stopped being a tiny grass drunk tank.IMG-20250601-WA0006~2.jpg
