Anyone up to anything this blustery weekend?

I’m a bit sad eventing season is coming to an end as I’ve really enjoyed hearing everyone’s write ups (and especially seeing your fab photos!) but looking forward to seeing hairy horses over the winter. ?

I’m supposed to have a jump lesson this weekend but I’ve not gotten a time or day yet.

Possibly the last week of gallops on the beach after work as next week the tides will be wrong and then it will be dark too early. ☹️

Currently at the Veteran Horse Society champs. Had a good second in his first class now hand grazing before the gales later. Like you feel sad season coming to and end as have retired him from BD so won’t be out over the winter. Have fun all anc lovely photo Peglo.

Well done on your second place @humblepie ? hope the weather doesn’t put a dampener on your weekend.

I've withdrawn from eventing on Sunday - unfortunately horse picked up an innocuous looking knock and cut in the field last week which hasn't healed as expected, and now think it might be a sequestrum - probably more likely that it is than it isn't, so that's annoying! He's actually very comfortable on it, but I'm not going out competing with an open wound, so instead we're ticking away with some light hacking.

Youngster is meant to be at BD tomorrow, but my lorry is still in the garage and I'm not sure it'll be out in time... so all in all a bit of a flop of a weekend!

Farrier came out today and then I had a very little jump on Henry for the first time since my fall. I have been feeling a bit nervous, mostly because my collar bone is still technically broken and I really dont want to fall again and damage it further. So my plan is just to do a little bit often to get string and comfortable again. Plus I've added in a bunch of fitness work off the horse again.

Tomorrow riding both at home and a bath for Henry. Sunday hoping for a ride of one but we are going wildflower spotting so will depend what time we get home!

Car shopping, excited and scared to be spending so much money lol! Not sure whether to be mad at Beryl outgrowing my nice lightweight trailer or secretly pleased to do some retail therapy as the season changes!

Hopefully next year I will be able to contribute a bit more to this thread again! Good luck everyone who is venturing out.

Arena hire to see if I can find the centre line and improve my test riding accuracy, ahead of a BRC qualifier next weekend.

Am tentatively trying to ask for more activity and engagement, which means it’s all a bit inconsistent and feels pretty clunky to me. I’ve been enjoying the ‘safe’ version of riding with the handbrake on, but it’s now time to step up. Considering we started out with a lot of rushing, falling on the forehand, and a wall of death canter, this is a big improvement, despite it feeling a bit ‘uncomfortable’!

Visiting Finn who is in the horsepital and having his melanoma surgery today. He’s been a very bad patient so far ? so is having treatment under GA today as the standing sedation didn’t work.

So (I know it’s not technically the weekend) but yesterday, I rode Nova in the school with others for the first time and she was so good! Tense to begin with and after a dramatic spook, she settled down and we had a lovely trot and a short canter on each rein. It was just good for her to walk around with others doing their thing.

Day off today and a hack tomorrow and then on Sunday I’m off to Piggy March’s yard. If anyone else is there, give me a shout!

Sorry to read this RF, I'm glad it's nothing more serious.

I could almost write the same post, weirdly! I heard the term 'sequestrum' from the vet this morning for the first time, and there it is again... I was supposed to be dressage training with Chilli but he came in with a fairly unexciting cut on Monday, it was fine that day and the next but when I got to the yard on Tuesday evening his leg had a tennis-ball sized lump and he was reluctant to walk. I admit I'd have preferred it to happen earlier in the day so it could have saved me a OOH vet bill.

It's healing well and he's happy walking now (it was nerve damage we think) but the vet wants him to stay in until the swelling has gone and we can x-ray, so that's now booked in for next Friday. In the meantime Chilli is getting very bored, but we got the all-clear for some quiet hand grazing today...as long as he behaves himself!

So not a lot for me this weekend, got the hoof guy coming tomorrow and will go for a plod on Indio.

It’s not competing but I’m taking my 4 yo to Jason Webb on Sunday for 4 weeks of starting. I’ve done quite a bit of ground work so it will be interesting to see what feedback I get!! He’s not used to travelling but we’ve done a couple of sessions getting on and off the lorry and 2 very short trips so I’m hoping he will travel ok. I imagine it is what sending your child off to boarding school feels like!

I think I'm going to have mud encrusted hippos instead of ponies tomorrow! Not complaining about the rain - might fill some of the crevasses in my field in.

Did some canter work with baby cob in the field this morning. He was napping towards the jumps which made me laugh - only popped him over a couple last weekend but he loved it. Hacking over the weekend now for him if he's not too grim tomorrow.

Then a quick trip to my old yard to do one of my massage case studies who was grumpy and tried to eat me.

RF and jiffy I couldn’t ‘like’ your posts, so instead sending healing vibes.

I’m moving yards this weekend and am overthinking it. Hopefully my dragon will manage, but been a stressful week sorting tests and worming and packing. Horses all seem to know things are about to change, so I put mine on calmer just to help him.
Not a choice to move, but new yard seems lovely and will have onsite hacking (yippee), worth the extra travel I hope.

My treat is Carl Hester demo on Sunday. Trying not to sulk at the earlier start time!

Had hoped to go down to Osberton for the young horse championships but friend was balloted! So a lazy weekend at home with an empty, and plenty of kitten wrangling!View attachment 100068

We have similar weekends then ?

My 6yo was balloted from Osberton so we are now re-routed to 2* Bicton. I’m at home playing with new puppy instead. The 6yo Xc yesterday looked cold, wet and manky so I’m not too disappointed. ?

Millie the 3yo went for her first new road hack alone this morning and was an ? Met a tractor with a Heston bale on front and also had to deal with a loose bouncy Doberman running round her. She didn’t even flick an ear ❤️

Bog did a 27 dressage to lead the section currently but we picked up 15 too fast faults. Which is completely bizarre as I was actually a little worried about him because he felt not his usual nippy self around the 6 min 30 course to the extent that I nearly pulled him up half way. When I saw them I thought they would be too slow ones, albiet that would have been more than I’d have expected.

Either way, we completed all three phases and finished our eventing on a good note ❤️

It's so annoying when it happens, but I'm really not missing the weather! Hoping baby horse will get into Oasby but also depends on him getting his act together!?

Back from holiday (Croatia is beautiful btw) and it's lovely to see a couple of very smart horses in the paddock by the house which belong to a friend. The four year old is by the late Party Trick and moves like a dream but she's giving me a few panic attacks by galloping past the window snorting! The six year old is by Take it to the Limit and is very cheeky but showing lots of ability. I've missed seeing horses out of my window. I rode this morning, Mr D has been newly clipped and looks very smart. He felt quite jolly and I'm told he's been a bit sharp to hack. I will school again on Monday and hack on Wednesday. Great to be back in the saddle.
Sorry to hear about injuries RF and J!ffy, also didn't want to "like" your posts, here's to a speedy straightforward recovery. Michen, it does sound odd tbh I think you'd know if you were going at a speed which put you a minute under!
