I used to be a member of Endurance GB and compete regularly at a low level. We only ever did up to 45 km.
But I cancelled my membership about 3/4 years ago when the Board refused to stand up to this horrific side of endurance and took all that money from the UAE. I can't remember now what the organisation the money came from was called but they basically bought EGB's silence on this type of behaviour.

At least EGB have made a statement about it this time but it is way too little, way too late for me to ever rejoin.

It was Hpower/Meydan. Sponsorship ended in 2019 I think.

Time for EGB to disband, lets go back to long distance rides/ competition in the UK and have nothing to do with international events. That way we control what's happening don't need foreign sponsors and people have fun and horse welfare is assured.

Why should EGB disband, they hold long distance rides/competitions in the UK and yes that should include 'international' rides which are run under the FEI rules, a lot of people have fun doing the sport in this country. The ride in the link was a national ride so the FEI have their hands tied by what they can do about it.
And horse welfare can not be assured just because you are doing lower level endurance.

Honestly the whole thing seems to be falling apart end of, there’s a serious lack of rides being run. It’s enough to qualify/go up the levels if you’re only competing one horse and don’t mind travelling fair distances. But those that want to compete seriously in it are leaving/selling up horses because they can’t get them out enough. Also the needing to do two helps at rides sounds great in theory, but the last couple of years it’s a case of there’s three rides suitable in a season for one horse and we had to help at two of them ?
The rules about animal welfare are insanely thorough, we’ve been spun at the beginning/middle end end of rides for minor reasons. So i do cringe when we’ve been at the bigger rides that have FEI classes on and you see an absolute ton of horses bought over from the UAE being cantered/galloped round a 100k+ race ride. There’s definitely a us and them feel about it despite the fact that they’re usually very welcoming and nice at the events. I’ve seen a few horses with nasty injuries/dropping down dead at vettings at the bigger races ??‍♀️ But you know these rides (particularly Euston) are only run on their money because you go from a ride run from a Caravan in a field to 5* restaurants and full stadium seating and hospitality boxes.

My friend has a team of endurance horses and takes it very seriously. But even she’s at the point where somethings got to change for her to carry on (after 30 odd years in it!) she’s not alone, lots of the people we see out and about are dropping out too. So I don’t know how sustainable it’s going to be with lack of entries the way it is.

I’ve personally been helping out friend for the past 4/5 years and I’ve seen a huge decline in the last couple of years ?

Bad press/publicity will only add to the issues

I've had a break for the last couple of years due to covid and other reasons, I have 4 horses for endurance this year, I used to do the big FEI rides and I'm now actually wondering if I can be bothered to carry on, having moved to a new area last April I have yet to hear from my new group which doesn't encourage anyone.

I really feel we in the UK need to go back to long distance riding under the regulation of the BHS and forget about international events at least for the immediate future, disband EGB and go back to having fun with excellent welfare in place.

Are you south east? We are Kent but tend to go up to iceini or across to mid south most of the time as all the “big” rides are either cancelled or run as pleasure rides, although it does seem to be a national issue all the “local” rides are gone for us

No I was in the Cotswold group which was great as was close to a lot of rides but I am now mid and north Wales, I think you are right, a lot of rides are now only run as pr or lower distance graded rides. The longer distance riders seem to aim more for FEI level and to be honest looking at the schedule this year I'm not holding out much hope for longer distance rides. I do feel sorry for people who want to qualify and be on the team.

Depressing isn’t it! We’ve actually gone as far as the cotswolds purely to move up the grades with at least one of the horses as otherwise we would have had to start again with a horse that was 80k fit ??‍♀️
