Have decided to continue riding Spider now as she is doing so well, she is getting fitter, the napping has stopped now her teeth have been done and she is slowly getting better in teh mouth.

So from tomorrow she will start having a handful of comp mix in each feed (she is now on a scoop of hi-fi and a scoop of alfa-a) but she does get quite fat in the summer, she will be muzzled when we change fields. And she is also very laid back! Last year when eventing she had a cup of outshine and 2 scoops of comp mix in each feed.

Can anyone suggest a feed that will give her energy (she doesnt get fizzy) but is not fattening? Was thinking maybe propell-plus supplement?

Allen and Page comp mix light

Gives them a bit of umph without fattening them up!! Otherwise the Baileys Comp mix is good, and I think has outshine included (their endurance mix does!) Goddy is currently on the Endurance mix and it give shim enough energy without making him fat, but that may change when he goes on grass, so am playing it by ear, if it does he will go on the A+P mix again

Propell plus is Good use it off and on with my mare on vets reccomendation. I also find D & H museli is good for energy rather than fizz, I top it up with oats if I need to. Not too expensive either.

Glad her teeth ok now

i would keep her on the fibre, and add a feed balancer and oats untily ou get the right amount of oomph...

i event mine on that (he's a right fat slug in the summer!), amd my sister's horse show jumps on it too.

To a certain degree yes - but it is worked off, she is worked 6 times a day, schooling, lunging hacking for around 30mins per day at the mo, will gradually be upped and will soon be jumping I hope.

Think mum is going to ask at the feed shop about getting the D&H concentrate mix tomorrow

'energy' = calories, so your not going to get a feed that gives your horse energy without giving it calories. Go for a high starch feed that will give your horse lots of instant 'oomph', and then you can maybe halve the recommended ration thus halving the calories you are giving. Remember to top up vits and mins though and dont feed too much strachy feed in one go (MAX 2kg per feed, although this is quite a lot for a fatty!)

I feed Spillers Slow release energy mix and love it, they also do an Instant release version that I imagine to be good to?

Bailey's Race horse mix, outshine and a can of red bull before a show does help Donkey a bit!!!

Red Bull?! Is it ok for horses to have?! Mine needs extra energy just now as well so I plan to put him on the D&H Performance Concentrate. But he also LOVES human drinks so if he could have a can of Red Bull before a show, he'd be in heaven...!

Grace was on Endurance Mix last year... it really gave her the umph without the silliness (and she does fizz up quite quickly). Baileys were fantastic for advice, as were saracen so could be worth phoning around
