Hi guys

I've just bought a sharp little mare who runs out of energy quickly. Zero stamina and she's a competition horse so that needs to be rectified. She's unfit too so I'm in the process of getting her fitter with interval training but she Defo needs more energy. She's doesn't need to gain too much weight but is by no means a good doer either. Just needs a bit of muscle.
Any suggestions? Feed companies have been useless with suggestions. Like calm and condition ain't gonna cut it, shes an eventer. But I do understand it's tricky because she is sharp so can't just blow her brain.

A lot of horses which have no stamina, too little muscle and are sharp, turn out to have PSSM. Have you considered muscle myopathy?

I had one event successfully on calm and condition, he gained the weight required and maintained it far better than he had on the competition mix he arrived here on, that with some linseed, alfalfa and adlib hay/ grass he looked fab, was mentally settled and built up the topline he had lacked.
As the fitness improves so will the stamina, muscle will build up at the same time as long as they get adequate protein and plenty of fibre, the normal high energy feeds will probably just make her sharper, more buzzy and not help with the stamina, oil or linseed is a good way to get slow release energy without making them fizzy.
