I have a 6 year old ISH who gets ridden 6 times a week. I am currently feeding him once a day with fast fibre, alpha a oil and some pasture mix, he is prone to putting on weight but I could do with him having some more energy without him getting silly. Any ideas? cheers

not being rude but why are you feeding 3 feeds? alfa a oil when fed at the recommended amounts for size of horse/workload is same energy level as competition mix/nuts,but without the fizz from cereal feeds, can be topped up with small amount of naked oats if you need a little more spark.
we swapped to alfalfa pellets 10 years ago,due to horse with azoturia, now the whole yard is on this as a base feed with vit/min supplement & then linseed lozenges/unmollased sugar beet/naked oats added as required according to horse gd/poor doer/workload,all look & feel fantastic, are bright & sparky without being silly, has halved the feed bill [considerate when feeding 10+] & we've had no colics, tying up or gastric probs.horses range from intermediate/2* to breakers.
