My mare has a problem with her hamstrings and sort of "bunnyhops" in canter with her back end.
We had the back person out the other day, and she found her movement very interesting.
She had some work done, especially in her pelvis, so we shall see.

I was recommended to do some pessoa work to help her bring her hind legs under self some more.
Weve had a check up and she can move her hocks, so they are not fused, just she seems to struggle in canter with flexibility.

However, im not a real fan of the pessoa, what are all your views :) I feel maybe lunging with two long lines would be just as effective?

Many thanks:)

I love my Pessoa, but that's because I get into too much of a bother with two lines...

I can't see why twos reins wouldn't work just as well :)

I do like the pessoa on some horses- its like marmite! I have some who go very well in it but other who really didn't like it.

Might be worth borrowing one to see how she goes in it, if she goes well perhaps look to buy one.

But I agree that two reins would possibly do the same but I find lunging with two reins too much hassle :p

I pessoa my boy to get him using his backend more. He usually pulls himself with his front end rather than pushing through. I do long rein him and lunge with two lines but think that the pessoa is much better at getting the desired affect.

Ps i bought my pessoa from ebay :-) not a real one but fantastic and brown!

now i thought about using a pessoa on my girl but im not so sure about the contact on the mouth( my girl is very sensitive) so i read somewhere- cant remember where- to use a couple of long tail bandages tied together and and placed around the bum, as a pessoa would, as this would not create a prob with her mouth, and it works an absolute treat. she steps up nicely as it just reminds them that they have back legs lol its a fab idea for unused bandages.

I hate pessoa's, they teach the horse to drop behind the contact to avoid their hind legs pulling on their mouth. I find much better more 'natural' (well for a gadget) results with side reins and really driving them forwards with a lunge whip if you can't be doing with two reins.

I like two reins beacuse I'm lazy and it's much easier to change direction!

my possa changed the way my horse went. she was so much stronger through her back. cant rate it enough :)

I lunged her with the two reins yesterday and she was fab :D

She was a bit p****d off tho but shes a moody cow when she wants to be :P

But the sun was shinning and she looked great so thanks for all ur advice :D
