English setter litter born

Irish, surely!!!

Irish are all red and a different shape. I thought English were black and white though so what do I know!?

Ok. so I've read it properly now. They are red and white setters. I've never even heard of them and I grew up with Irish Setters. They were involved in the development of the Irish Setter apparently

Yes these are Irish Red & White Setters. Not as popular as the better known Irish Setter.

It is lovely to see these rare breeds and it would be a shame to lose them altogether. I wonder why they aren't as popular as the Irish & English setters, less flashy maybe.

I would love a red Irish setter but need to wait a couple years before I seriously look. Not because they are 'flashy' or anything but when I was 15 I looked after a fairly young dog. He was pretty timid when I met him but we just bonded and got on so well, I've owned some lovely dogs as an adult who you would never get another like but never got on like this. He was after a new home too as didn't get on with the dogs where he was but due to allergies in my family it wasn't possible to take him home with me.

The show ones always looked extremely ropey and not like proper setters at all - hopefully that has improved over the past few years ?

Hmm, yes, I think English setters are less flashily marked. It's an English I'd love, although the prevalence of leish gives me pause.

I've always liked them, thanks to Susan Cooper/Diana Wynne Jones/The Mabinogion, although the yell hounds/yeff pack are allegedly pretty ugly :p

Friend of my mother's got an English setter because they thought it would be a 'different' breed to do agility with.

**Narrator: 'That did not work out'

A setter for agility? Goodness me, I think of them as elegant tall things, speedy but not agility speedy. I don’t see that working well!

My Mum had Emglish setters back in the day and worked them on the grouse moors when they went up there on holiday. I would love one, but they seem to be walking health disasters these days. One day, when I live near a moor I will get one. :-)

A friend here has red and whites, mad as hatters they are. Mum's were always mad but fairly well behaved. The slobber though!
