Was doing a bit of surfing the other night and came across this breed, they have started to come over from the US and they originated from here hence the name. They came over with early settlers and were the original farm dog before Border Collies. They herd & guard and turn their paw to anything, looking at the photos they look very much like the collies my father-In-law had and were amazing dogs. They were also very beautiful dogs. So I was just wondering if anyone had come across these dogs as there are a few over here doing agility etc.

How interesting. My OH has loads of Victorian era farm books and these dogs are frequently in them work the sheep, geese and cattle. Always assumed collie x. Hmmm when I get broadband may have to look into this breed further.

They are a made in USA breed - collie x shepherd.

How often has a litter happened when the farm guard dog got together with a collie?

I think it's funny how that kennel has to import English Shepherds to the UK, sorry :o

I think the user who has the GSD x Old English Sheepdog has the most diplomatic crossbreed ever :)

Just asked boyf he said what I am looking at in books are just tri coloured collies and maybe x bred collies with GSDs and other similar shepherds. I do wonder though if queen Victoria had them people may have tried to breed looky likeys Victorians version of designer breeding.

I think the point I was trying to make and very badly is I dont believe they all left our shores for the US. F-In-Law had 2 or 3 who were black and tan and looked very much like the Landseer painting. They were brilliant dogs and just did everything on instinct, 1 of them used to go on her own and bring the cows for milking at the same time every day without any command.

I would also like to say sorry for forgetting to put up a link so thank you 2Greys for that.

Oh this is a OES not in dulex show condition. We will have another almost rehomed rehomed one last month but my land lady is away till end of Sept and won't do a letter till we get back.

Sorry DG I got the impression the woman who is breeding is saying they were from here?

They originated from here and it seems they came with the Romans on their conquest of Britain so appear to be an old breed.

Toffee the Old English Sheepdog has different origins and I have to say the ones I used to know were not big in the brain department.:D

Let's re write that. This is a OES that is not in show condition like in dulux advert. We want to get another after loosing the boy in photo (hes still around but OH ex decided she still owned him a yr later) we found a 11yr old in rescue but my land lady can't do a letter till Sept. And rescue won't rehome without a letter.

Oh geroff..they be farm yard mutts, like there always has been ,what else can we ship out for big bucks under an invented name Rare indeed.:D

East kent why not:D They are better than Labradoodles and other designer breeds at least they can do a good job.

Right Im off to dog training before the pedigree mutts start.

Totally wrong on both counts lol they are a pedigree breed who originated in UK and the settlers kept them as original whereas we bred for specialist herders, which became the Border Collie. English Shepherds are all round farm dogs.
