Please excuse my ignorance, I`ve just bought a 13.1hh Welsh sec b, she has a good spring of ribs and strong loins but only 7 1/4 inches of bone, is that adequate for her breed? I`ve trawled the internet, but none of the breed standards mention what the bone measurement should be, and I`m used to hairy cobs with 10 inches of bone, so she looks somewhat spindly!

I call my welsh B chicken legs, she looks like a mini TB with an arab head. she has the smallest head and skinnyist legs going and needs a small pony or foal headcollar. so I'd say it's probably ok. If I can find a photo I'll add in on. I've never bothered to measure her legs though, just her belly so she doesn't get fat!

Sorry Lovescobs, I can`t see the photo, but from what you said it seems sec b don`t have very big bone, actually just read that Hafflinger mares should have between 6 3/4 and 7 3/4 inches of bone, so she`s probably fine with 7 1/4!

Thank you, she`s very pretty, much finer than mine. From what I`ve been reading there seems to be two different types of sec b`s, had several natives over the years but not one of these, so got lots to learn, too many years now with the hairies!

Not an expert on Welsh B's but my understanding is that they should be fine, no feather and a little araby. the sect A's are more chunky with a little feather, C's are mini cobs and then the D's with plenty of bone and feather, obviously not as much feather as a traditional cob. Your mare is very pretty, a neighbour of mine breeds sect B's and they are finer than yours.

Yeah mine too Vicki! And she can get her head out of the head collars leaving it whole, unbroken, still done up, still on the lead rope dangling from the tie ring whilst she's off finding something tasty! I think she has a double jointed head and I don't put it on loosly lol! your mare is gorgeous.
