Ok, after getting completely (and I mean completely) soaked in my NEW "waterproof" jacket this morning, I've had enough....I am starting a quest to seek a truly waterproof coat and waterproof trousers. Both of these must be lightweight so I can wear them in the summer as well as in the winter. I'll put base layers underneath when it's cold. I'd like a short jacket in a bright colour (I like to make an entrance) and dark coloured trousers. Suggestions are welcomed before I decide to give up the horsey life and become a beach bum in Greece.

Try your local golf shop

I got my waterproof bottoms from there they are plain and do the job and cheap-ish

My jacket came from Rydale and is bright green good for hacking in and so far it lastest longer than the Joules one

I have given up buying the "fashion" riding gear, as it is double the cost and seems to last half the time

the only truly long-lastingly waterproof jackets i've ever found are rubberised or plasticy on the outside. i got a great ski-jacket from TK Maxx which is totally waterproof, slightly rubbery feel on the outside, and cost about £25 last winter. well worth a good look there.
my other one is a dayglo yellow police jacket (with the Police label picked off!) which belonged to an ex-boyfriend. it is very plasticy on the outside but absolutely waterproof, for hours.
every other make i've tried is, at best, water-resistant for an hour or two before they start leaking at the seams and turning into sponges...!

Yep TK Maxx is the way to go now, cheap and very waterproof and usually quite stylish as well. You do need the rubbery type coat, sweats a bit in summer if it's really hot but as we don't 'do' summers any more then shouldn't be a problem - LOL

I got a fab pair of bright yellow trousers from Mole Valley something or other... when on hols at ravenwoods a couple of weeks ago.

They are brill, keep all the wet out and were only £6

Ah, excellent, thanks for the top tips, you've given me lots of ideas. This weekend I shall be mainly coat and trouser shopping...and when I'm not doing that I'll be checking out beach bum opportunities in Finikounda and Vassilliki, although the summer's finishing there now too (but it's all relative).

Thanks again.
