This year I am biting the bullet and entering our first (and probably only) HOYS qualifier so I was hoping you clever lot could give me any pointers on the entry process to check I don't make a glaringly obvious mistake.
We're going to do the BRHHS qualifier at Cheshire Show. I have already joined the Clydesdale Horse society (in my maiden name at my parents address as that's what his passport says) and I have started to fill out the Grandstand registrations but that's where I get a bit confused. Is there anything to pay to them? Should my registration with them be in my maiden name or my married name? I am both owner and rider. His vacs are up to date, is there anything else I need to ensure we have (over and above our usual unaffiliated showing)?

Footnote: I know we won't be in the running at this level and it will be more costly to play at but this is the kind of things that was beyond my wildest dreams before I got my boy. We have been out and about showing at County level for years now, he relishes the big crowds and always gives a ride judge a cracking ride. Last year he placed 2nd in the open Ridden Heavy at Cheshire Show and the horse in 3rd went on to come third in the HOYs qualifier so he won't embarrass me either.

Gratuitous picture from last year, excuse my dodgy position it was the lap of honour and the boy was flying!

The hoys levy is usually included in your class entry fees. With native ponies you don't need to pay to register with grand stand media. I doubt you with the heavy horses but I'd give them a ring to make sure! Cover all bases, dot every I and cross every T and all that! If in doubt give them a ring, they will be used to answering every question known to man about entry procedures and the likes.

I do love watching the heavy horse classes! The sound if the hooves on the ground in phenomenal!

I'm doing the Cheshire Show, and can see one class is a qualifier - but I entered and paid online and it made no mention of needing or request of a Grandstand ID or any other details for HOYS. Guess will have to complete the manual form and send off?

I just figured it was a bit presumptuous that we would qualify as would that assume he's good enough to take or warrant the championship entry :D

ETA: Just found the very small print I must've seen and took note of subconsciously - Not eligible as he is a gelding :D

I had a look at the HOYS entry form last year and as it has a column for grandstand media number I thought we had to register!
Also, are you looking at BRHHS class too, there were qualified geldings last year! Have I missed something?

No, I am doing World Breeds which is a qualifier for the In-Hand Cuddy @ HOYS.

Unless, like mine, the horse is missing vital parts :D

I just saw your post and prior to realizing the above, thought I had missed something so double checked. I guess that there is an algorithm in the online entry that had mine been entire or a mare, it'd have asked for more info.

You don't need grand stand media numbers or the likes for in-hand classes as it is only the supreme in hand champion that qualifies for the Cuddy. Ridden classes everyone needs a hoys number to enter.

OP, I don't follow showing at all (so no useful advice to give), but just want to say how fab it is that you are taking your big lad to this year's Cheshire show. I remember you posting about his spell in horsepital, it's great that he has recovered so well that you are able to go back in the ring :).

Thanks Tiddlypom, you've made me go all goosebumps to realise how far he's come. It was all very close at one stage and I certainly wasn't sure he'd come back to true form. That's why I am determined to take this chance, you never know what's around the corner !
