has anyone lost there enthusiasum since eventing has stopped? have given my horse his holiday, is now back in work (of a fashion) but just can't seem to find the "omph" to get out and do anything, have loads to do on my door step (southeast) but the thought of hanging around all day and warming up with loads of others to jump a couple of rounds doesn't inspire me, nor does doing dressage in the pours of rain! i did manage to box to my friends at the weekend for a nice hack. does anyone else get like this at this time of year? any good ideas on getting motivated????

I think we all struggle. I know that once Xmas is out the way and the evenings start to get lighter again I feel better. Also when the first eventing schedules come out that another motivation but this time of year particularly is hard work.

i think your right, after christmas it will only be two months untill the first event (stilemans) atleast then you have something to aim for! glad i'm not the only one out there lacking the omph!

I feel exactly the same, my season was cut short due to a suspensory strain and now he is back in work I find it all a drag.

I am always the same untill after New Year when I pick it all up again and look forward to March!

You are not alone, believe me

I'm finding it quite difficult as well. Having gone on a late summer holiday (end Oct / Beg Nov) so I have only really been hacking recently.
Have just entered some stressage - for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to do 3 tests ! It will probably go really badly but at least it might remind me about how much work I have to do over the winter !
I guess I ought to go out SJ but like you the thought of being out in the cold and waiting around doesn't inspire me. I keep trying to convince myself that SJ indoors on a surface doesn't really help when the events are outdoors on grass - so whats the point ?

S_J I thought that you were planning on a trip to Portugal which should get you motivated - or has there been a change of plans ?

I dont really lack it after the eventing season (although its a bit crap!) as I go BSJA'ing all winter. Mine will get a holiday in Feb / March before eventing starts again

The only problem I have just now is forcing myself to go out in the freezing cold and stand about at competitions...!

Yes we are still hoping to go to Portugal but I can't get too enthusiastic until the consultant gives me the go ahead in January - it is still possible that I might need another op which will scupper that!

errrrrrr Barbados?? wat ,when and who with??? U taking me??? god i wish!!!(will call u in a min miss luck)!!

well i cant wait till it all starts up again, was my 1st season this yr so looking 4ward to it more now i know what its all about. Just hope my lil nutter learns 2 do a half decent test, doesnt seem to be hapening at the mo tho(will B ever do a nice calm test??).Been doing JUST stressage wiv NO jumping and cant say im reeking in the bennefits at mo.!

am really looking forward to march...but i dont lack any motivation because i like all the schooling etc that i do in the winter and try and iron out creases.

I'm struggling currently, though largely through lack of a school and find hacking so dull, plus ponies are coming back into work so no jumping even to cheer ourselves up!!

Things will get better in February

I have zero momentum. I am going Sj on Wednesday but back to BN and Disco as I think he might be a git. I hunted once and cannot be bothered to go again and have done 1 dressage comp which proved my theory that I can do nothing it depends on his mood! So yeah all on track for next year NOT!

I always reeeeelly struggle this time of the year. There doesnt seem to be any point in all the hard work in the dark and the rain and the days are so short I dont seem to get anything done! Wont be long tho and at the end of Jan I'll think "I've only got a month- thats not long enough!" and start panicking

None of ours are even being ridden yet, so its actually really easy at the mo!!! am seriously missing riding them, but stole a friends horse for huntin! But by december the clippers come out and I have to look forward to sitting back on the 3yo which will behave better than the rest probably!

Mines not back in work yet. He is coming back in at the weekend and I cant wait. BUT I want to fast forward it 4weeks when he will be ready to do some dressage and go out partying again. Not looking forward to the 2weeks of roadwork at 6.30am or the clipping!!

Yes, hate the clipping!!! you have to clean them, and get filthy, then start clipping and end up with hairs everywhere!
