Hi everyone.

was hoping for some advice on a friend of mine's horse. This horses entire hind leg came up massively swollen overnight. the leg is warmer than the rest but, he is not lame and doesn't appear to be in any pain. We haven't found any nicks or cuts on him and looks like its going down slowly. Should we be worried(call a vet) or will this go down on its own? Has anyone had something similar to this before? Could it be a bite from a spider, bee, snake ect...?

We don't have any poisonous snakes or spiders where I live so I don't know what the symptoms are of being bitten by them. Had you been elsewhere in the world I would have suggested it could be lymphangitis and if it is then yes I would call a vet to get some aggressive treatment for it otherwise the horse could be blighted with it on and off for ever more. If we had poisonous critters where I live and this is what happens when they are bitten then again, yes I would call the vet as a matter of urgency.
