Environmental friendliness on the yard

Following on from my question about rainwater, what other things do people do to try and be environmentally friendly? I try to recycle my rubbish but I'm not sure what else I could be doing.

I think it would be interesting to hear what other people do as well...
 
I'm on a medium size yard (35/40 horses) and we recycle. We have various bins situated around the edge of the muck heap and labelled for things like cans, plastics bags/bottles. hay string and paper/empty feed bags etc. This mainly started becuase the council refuse to do a rubbish collection from us now but will collect recycling!

But any other rubbish we have to take home to our own bins now!!! (I'm DIY but yes, even the full liveries!

oooh - thats interesting! I keep one of my horses at a livery yard and I've heard speculation that the council are refusing to collect. Maybe we will have to start doing the same there, then!
 
Yeah it does work - think people were a bit, no actually quite a lot put out to start with - as with most yards lots of people seem to feel they are owed every service under the sun for paying a livery fee!! I must admit it was frustrating suddenly finding you had no where to put little bits of rubbish! But everyone has no got used to it now ...........
 
we have to take our own rubbish home anyway as our yard is up in the middle of nowhere and the council has no have a special van to come out to collect the YO's house rubbish and the YO's have enough trouble getting them to collect that rubbish never mind ours aswell!

theres only 10 horses on our yard so were quite environmentaly friendly anyway
 
we recycle are muck and send it over to the local garden center.

we grow are own carrots and use recycled muck and water to grow them with

and also recycle all feed bags, shavings bags ect...
