my mothers 14 yr old coliie has had 7 fits in last 24hrs. She has been fine up to now health wise apart from an episode of "circling" manicly 10/12 days ago which was not repeated. My mother is distraught that she has missed something prior to today. Can Epilepsy hit this quick? what experience/help can anyone give please. My mum is 87 and very upset

we did when she had the first ,but was looking for some actaul experiances of living with this. posted after had rushed her to the vet last night after 2 in 15 mins and left her there on intrave3neous drugs. has had more fits and will be pts. : (

Sorry to hear this :(
Border collies can be susceptible to epilepsy, however in this case of sudden cluster seizures in an older dog with no previous history of them.....in my experience it is normally due to a tumour with a hopeless prognosis :(

thanks Umbongo, Mum has decided to give her another night , I think she is clutching at straws but everyone has to make their decision in their own time. Unfortunately my own dog has a brain tumour which is controled atm by steroids but her fits were nothing like the collies and i am younger so more able to deal with them. just wish the vet was more helpful. Ho Hum

All three of my mother's collies developed it seemingly out of the blue when they got older. But this many in such a short time is pretty extreme.

thanks,2 more fits in the night so went peacefully to sleep this morning.

So sorry.

My Boxer dog was almost 10 years old when he suddenly started a 'head tic' and frothing at the mouth. We took him to the vet where he had a full blown lay on the floor and shake fit. We were terrified. They stabilised him overnight and we brough him home but he continued to fit and we had him PTS. The vet said it was most likely a tumour pressing on his brain.

However my GSD has a different type of epilepsy. It started when he was about 18mths old and he went blank and toppled over. He has been on meds every day since then (he's nearly 9) and we have never seen these blank-outs again.

I'm sorry your mum has lost her dog :(
