Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you knew of a yard in Epping Forest called Pipers Farm and if so what is it like? I am looking for a yard in the Epping Forest area that does full livery, has all year turnout, a decent ménage and nice hacking, any other suggestions would be very gratefully received! Doesn’t even have to have vacancies immediately as I’m prepared to wait for the right yard.

Thanks a lot!

Loren

Hello,

I used to keep my horse at Pipers Farm about 4 years ago. They will do full livery but not all year round turnout. Just before I left the YO was allowing some liveries to use her field in the winter for a few hours a day but it became very boggy as it was not big enough to cope and was never rested to allow the grass to recover. The summer turn out is, I think, 3 hour time slots daily. I'm assuming it's still run the same. The menage is the standard size with sand and a rubber mix but it gets quite deep and water logged in winter. There is good access to the forest but there are other yards in the area are kept a little nicer... Have you tried Carlton House (just down the road and offers full livery), Fairmead Farm (I assume is still running as a livery yard as he opened a cattery as well) in the middle of High Beech itself you have Gardens of Hanbury (has all year round turn out), Manor Farm (I think has all year round turn out). There is also Southend Farm but don't think it's the nicest of yards, especially with regard to the people...

Hope I have been of some use!

Can also second everything gerbera has said although not sure fairmead still does livery anymore. Gardens does have all year turnout but I think this is mornings for geldings and afternoons for mares. As for southend farm, I happen to be a livery there and have been for the last 5 years... it is a little bit as you find it, but there is little facility for full livery ( more DIY with services) and forget all year turnout.... as for the people the words "interesting" and "colourful" spring to mind. Fortunatly I am tucked out of the way with a wonderful group of people with a fabulous YM keeping a watchful eye on us.

I know this yard, in the middle of the forest but turnout is not good.

If you want daily year round turnout, you need to go to Manor Farm - I was there for a few years about 8 years ago. Bit run down but a nice place, school was not great though.

If you can live with fields closed for about 10 weeks in winter, then Harolds Park is another good yard. Big busy yard with good facilities and livery service. Daily turnout most of the year and in summer they did have 24 hour turnout.

Again I was there for about 4 years before moving to the small yard I am now at.

Daily t/o in the area for winter is difficult - I get 4 days a week where I am now, but we can put them in the school on no turn out days so I can cope.

Thanks for all of your help, haven't been to Pipers Farm yet, but have checked out Carlton House, but they don't do all year turnout although is a smart yard, Gardens of Hanbury's arena wasn't great (oval with lamposts?). Think Harolds Park & Southend Farm are a little on the large side for me. Will update you when I see Manor Farm & Pipers Farm.
Do any of you know of a yard called Armstrong & Small in Upshire? Any info gratefully received!

Yes, I was at the yard for under a year whilst Justine reschooled my pony. They are a lovely yard - have wonderful hacking but turnout is not all year - they rest the fields over winter so I had to leave as my boy could not cope. They do however have a lunge pen you can turn out in. Facilities wise they have a nice horsewalker, nice sized all year round outdoor school with floodlights, and a jumping paddock which does not have all year round surface but was a pretty good surface tbh. She has a good selection of jumps. The yard size is fairly small, they had a few adult liveries when I was there but most were children as she specialises in showing. From what I remember it was quite expensive, I was on part livery but can't remember how much I paid. She schooled my boy very well though, and her mother is equally nice and helpful.
