EPSM?

Im going to try the EPSM diet on my pony but im finding it all abit confusing. Just wondering if anybody had any experience of EPSM with there horses? And how do i work out how much oil, selenium and vitiman E i should give? Thanks

you can safely feedup to 1ml oil/kg of bodyweight per day of oil before needing to supplement with selenium/vit E I think... Equijewel from saracen is great stuff, already suplemented with the Vit E/Selenium and is basically oil apart from that

I think it stands for equine polysacharide storage myopathy.Modern research has shown that what we previously labled as azoturia, or tying up, and muscle wastage problems are not due to excess protein but to problems metabolising carbohydrates. Polysacharides build up in the muscle and are not metabolised and muscle damage occurs.This is why so many horses are now on high oil diets. Do a search on EPSM or PPSM ,it will give you a very interesting evening.
