my yard is due for worming this wkend but one of my horses is prone to getting colic very easily , bit worried re worming , anybody else experienced problems with equest paramox? thanks very much xx

should be fine if your horse has been wormed regularly ...if not get some advice from your vet if your horse has a big worm burden and you use a strong wormer you can have problems...
 
don't use it! i did last time and one of mine was very unwell after, not the first time i've had this experience, but definately the last!


you should use a wormer with ivermectin this time , nearest worming to dec, to cover bots
 
We used Pramox on our yard this autumn without any problems whatsoever. There is always someone who knows of a case where some medication or other has caused a problem, but you just have to weight it up ion your own mind or better still consult your vet. You won't get billed just for advice on the phone.

My horse is also prone to colic and has suspect ulsers but have used this product with no problems however I am now looking at a new approach to worming via worm egg counts. I know that there is a lot of debate about worm counts not showing up all worms present and the need to worm for tape worm which also can lead to colic would still be necessary twice a year. I am hoping that regular worm counts can eradicate the need for medication and aid to stopping the resistance to wormers that we now see. Probably best to get vets advice as every horse needs to treated as an individual.
 
Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole - nearly lost my boy to colic after a single chemical wormer a couple of months ago - putting 2 chemicals in at the same time? - not a chance!
 
One of mine had colic about 15 minutes after being wormed. He didn't have a high worm burden as he was also worm counted. Vet said wormer probably wasn't to blame but too much of a coincidence I thought.

I wont use it either . Strongid-P or Panacur. Panacur kills 60% of the worms even if they are resistant,and its easy to see if they are resistant if you have a worm count done,if they are change to a pyrantel embonate [Strongid-P] based wormer. I lost 3 horses to EGS and there is a link between ivermectin wormer and susceptability to EGS. I will never use moxidecin or ivermectin again,both attack the nervous system.
 
Personally never had any problems using it on 8hh - 17hh and ages 6 months to tenty years. There will always be a few that cannot tolerate any product made.
 
Never had a problem with it, and I've used it on some very, very wormy rescue jobs as well, All picked up and put weight on and looked a whole lot better afterwards.
 
Personally never had a problem with it, used it on two different horses over the last four years. Have heard things recently tho from people who have had problems with it.
 
Will never use it again!! I didn't realise so many others have had so many bad experiences with it.
We used it on 3 of our horses, usually all fine to worm. 2 of them completely went off food for a week (completely!), and the oldie got colic the same evening.
 
I used equimax and yes he was a bit tender but he had not been wormed for a long time when I got him, so guess he had a worm burden

Have used Equest(& paramox) lots of times etc and different ones with no ill effects.I only worm twice yearly as poo pick daily.

exactly the same with me except it was equest and not equest pramox.
Amazing coincidence with my horse that for the first time in his life he got colic within half an hour of his first ever dose of equest (he was worm counted as well) but I suppose these coincidences happen.
When I rang the vet to warn I may need a visit the vet's assistant didn't seem that suprised.

I would never ever use pramox and will only use equest on a few.
