Equest Pramox - any experiences please?

I need to worm for tapeworm this month, and was going to use Equest Paramox. A couple of people have said they have had bad experiences with it - has anyone any views please?

I have used it spring and autumn every year for 4/5 years.
I worm 4 horses including a youngster.
Had a very mild colic once with one of the horses when I first used it but put that down to the fact I had brought them in as it was paticularly bad weather and changed the routine.
No problems since..

There will always be somebody that has a bad experience with any wormer, or any drug. The majority of users have no problems, as I have had no problems. Surely worth trying it once anyhow?

i nearly lost a horse with colic 3 years ago, he pulled through and the vet said stick with Equest Pramox, we have ever since with no problems at all- i'd definitely recommend it.

Gem has had it every spring and autumn the last 3 years ive had her, never had any trouble with it whatsoever

My vet has just wormed my yearling with it and he was fine.

I would say that you must keep it way from dogs. If any is spilt on the floor clean it up and throw away carefuly the tube and box as my friends dog licked the floor after some dropped out of the horses mouth and it had to spend the night at the vets, it was touch and go if it would survive and it went blind for nearly 48 hours!!!
but the horse was fine!!!

I use the Equest programme and haven't had any problems with Pramox - actually thanks for reminding me as we are due soon!

Equimax or double dose strongid P is what you give now. Equest pramox just has a lot of listed side effects so if your horse is suspected of having worms, ill or underweight its best not to go with it and use the other ones.

There is nothing wrong with giving Pramox now, you don't need to use Equimax or dd strongid P

I use the Equest programme, but I worm count instead of using the Equest, and only use if necessary - therefore I bring my worming costs down and the horses have as little chemical as necessary

I've used Pramox for tapeworms for a few years. No problems. There were some reports of Equest causing colic in horses with very high worm burdens when it was first launched, but in well looked after horses I think these wormers are probably the most effective around.

Equmax is the same as Pramox, just a different manufacturer.

Not quite the same, though they both contain Praziquantal for tapeworm. However Pramox contains moxidectin and Equimax contains ivermectin. They recommend you switch between these two brands each year to avoid resistance. Useful link here with the different wormer groups:
