Hi,

I am just finalising the plans for part DIY build arena and trying to make a final decision on the surface. I have seen a couple of articles on ASH that is a by product produced in the furnaces of coal burning power stations. Its perfectly safe to use etc and is environmentally friendly. One of the recommended uses is for equestrian arenas and does not need a membrane?
Has anyone had any experience of using this?

That's what Trackright is. We have it and it is brilliant. I have been told there are different grades of it though.
Mine has rubber on the top.
No membrane required and it is laid at a depth of 6"
Pm if you need any more info

We have similar as a base in ours. It has worked really well and drains brilliantly. Ours has been down for 12 years and has sand over the top.

I've never used it but I would imagine the suppliers should be able to recommend a few people who have it in your area and, horsey people being very friendly, one of them might let you go see it or even ride on it. It's worth taking the time making sure this is exactly what you want and riding on it is the best way.

I used to groom for a guy who had an arena of this or something very similar. Lovely surface to ride on although fairly hard, but very dusty in dry weather, he couldn't use school in dry summers as was close to the house and filled house with dust! But prob fine if your school isn't close to home!
