Hi, i'm a teenage girl looking for a job with horses where they can teach me to ride if I help around on the yard. Me and a family member have found somewhere nearby that is run by an old friend we found out and its an equestrian centre. Would I have stuff to do there so they could teach me? It says you can enquire about livery? Does this suit?

Thank you
:D:D:D:D

Not sure what you mean by "does this suit"?

I think you need to go there and ask if you can help in return for lessons. I know this used to be a popular way for yards to get their work done cheaply, but I think H&S laws make this more difficult now.

"Thank you. I meant is this a good way to get started again, if I have past experience aswell by saying does this suit. To get back into working with horses? I'm 13 so I know I am young, but I have worked at a riding school and a livery before and know all the basics.Thank you, you have been a great help :):):)

May I say aswell, this is an equestrian centre, it does not say about livery but it gives a telephone number to enquire about livery. I'm not quite sure if an Equestrian Centre is very different from a livery? Whose horses would it be?

Thank you so much for your help, I'm going to look around today so I just need some last minute advice about this.

Thank you!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

I assume that you do not have a horse, therefore enquiring for livery is not what you require.

An equestrian centre may have a mix of school horses and liveries, these could range from quiet beginners horses/ponies to big, fit competition horses and horses in for re-schooling.

Why not telephone and ask if they would let you help with yard work, tack cleaning etc.?

I would add that you may need to consider approaching this at the yard offering something for you, rather than you looking around to see if you can do them a favour, hope you know what I mean!

You could possibly get a job as a Working Pupil, where you work in exchange for lessons (and if you're lucky a small wage) This equestrian centre might be suitable, it depends on what sort of centre it is, do they only do livery, or do they do riding lessons? You could phone and ask if they take working pupils. I think you're a bit too young to be offered a position though, but you might be allowed to help around the place in exchange for lessons.

Livery is the term for looking after your horse for you, so you don't need to phone them to ask about livery.

Thank you for your help, I will try this suggestion :)x

Thank you for all of your help!

When I was your age I used to muck out and help on weekends and Wednesdays at a local riding school/livery yard/show jumping yard. I got a semi-private lesson every week with a girl that also used to help and a bag of chips on Saturdays :D

We did have to sit a basic stable management "exam" and practical, showing we could muck out, groom, tack up, tack clean and lead in the riding school, and know what to do in case of an emergency.
