I've been with ED for years (both when they used to be underwritten by AmTrust, and now they have split) and have made two huge claims. They have always been absolutely excellent, very helpful and very quick!
I've been with them for years too and had no trouble with them up to now but they have apparently gone out of business and sold their client base to another company leaving approximately 100 of us fighting to get our unpaid claims settled. So beware!
Hi thanks for the welcome. It has all happened in the last couple of days and apparently we will all be notified in the near future. The claim issue has been ongoing since last October however.
I would give them time to be honest. Keep pressing but i am sure it'll all get sorted. Unfortunately when these businesses get taken over/merge then it can delay things as data needs to be transferred etc.
I have had some conversations with various people today but feel it is unfair to post about it on here - email if you want - hopefully it will be sorted soon
I have been trying to get my claim paid since December and 6 weeks ago was told it had been approved and was waiting payment but there was a backlog (they were still saying this two weeks ago when I made yet another phone call)
I sent a letter of complaint last week to their Managing Director and received a reply today stating my claim had been accepted and forwarded to MY(?) insurers Templeton Insurance Ltd with our recommendation for settlement
(in my letter I even made a sarcastic remark that this type of behaviour smacked of financial trouble!)
Only recently. They took 6 weeks to even look at a claim and it took me moving all of my policies that were up for renewal, and threatening to cancel the other, to get them to even approve it. I then had to threaten them with invoicing them for the interest on my credit card bill (I had already paid the vet on my CC) each month that they didn't reimburse me, in order to get my money out of them.
I think the problem is actually the underwriter, Templeton, rather than ED but still reflects badly. Suspect they have cash flow probs which is why they are taking their time.
I've been with ED for years too. Had 2 chunky claims with them and they were always helpful and efficient. Claims paid in double quick time. But I didn't know they had sold up! I thought they just had new underwriters. Interesting - have to see how this pans out!
I finally spoke to them tonight (had to leave a message on their answer machine this morning as no calls were getting through). They have been taken over by a company called Direct Insurance Services and Templeton, the underwriter, have taken on the policies. I was told Templeton will continue to process existing claims and they think you would need to contact Templeton for any claims during the rest of the policy - so I have 4 months left on my policy, during which time I would deal with just the underwriter.
There was a lot of talk about how the new insurer isn't using Templeton anymore as T aren't FSA registered (so therefore not regulated in UK). I will move my remaining ED policy over to Amtrust Equine in July (I moved the other two last month when they were due for renewal) I think...
All v odd and he wouldn't tell me what had happened to ED. Just said customers were "hitting a brick" wall trying to get claims through, now these new people have taken over and "ED will cease to exist very shortly". All v strange!
Yeah the guy I spoke to tonight said we should all be getting letters about it by the end of next week. He said they are waiting for the FSA to approve the wording and let them know how much they are allowed to tell us all about what has happened to ED.
He said someone from Templeton has collected all of the outstanding claim files today, which they will deal with now. Apparently, although T will deal with any further claims during the rest of my policy, they are waiting to find out from the FSA if these guys Direct Insurance can act as a "front end"...ie, would I ring T directly or would I ring DI, who would send me the paperwork and deal with T for me....
TBH I don't really care as long as my policy is safe, I haven't lost any money and my claims are paid out on if I make anymore during the rest of the policy! The guy on the phone assured me everything was "safe and above board"...

CC - have you had any contact from a company called First Equine?
[/ QUOTE ]
You deleted your other post??
No. The new company are currently called Direct Insurance Solutions but apparently will trade as Equine Insurance Solns for the purpose of equine insurance.
I spoke to both Templeton and Equine First today. I didn't bother with Equestrian Direct since my letter of complaint to their Managing Director got a very brief response telling me to contact Templeton.
Templeton told me they weren't aware that Equestrian Direct were writing to people telling them to contact Templeton about their claim (sounds very fishy to me, and I would suggest at Equestrian Direct's end!). Anyhow they gave me a number for Equine First, who informed me they have been appointed to deal with the outstanding claims but are waiting for the claim information from Equestrian Direct. But to speed the process up I could send in copies of all my paperwork (thus why I am up so late).
I thought it was bad enough dealing with the traumatic death of my horse without having all this on top of it.
Like CC I would consider AmTrust as they have always paid promptly in my dealings with them
kad, the guy I spoke to at Direct Insurance Solns yesterday (who have supposedly bought ED) insinuated to me that the problem with Eq Direct was the MD but wouldn't say anymore.
So who are Equine First and where do they fit into it all? I am waiting for my letter next week confirming what is going on and then I am really tempted to cancel the remainder of my policy and move that over to Amtrust as well...
Equine First have been appointed by Templeton to handle the outstanding claims.
Templeton have collected the claim paperwork from Equestrian Direct and will be delivering it to Equine First today (according to the man from Direct Insurance Solutions who I spoke to yesterday)
I've not bothered copying (well getting my vets to copy) the paperwork and send off to EF as they should have it today (and getting it twice might confuse them in the current climate me thinks?)
IDS told me that my new policy from 01/04/2009 that I paid Equestrian Direct for is with different underwriters so is ok (although the paperwork I have talks of Templeton but they say that is going to be corrected and new paperwork sent out to me)
Nightmare!
Meanwhile - vets are still waiting for their money nearly 4 months down the line - sigh
I've just spoken to Equine First - who confirm they have received paperwork in relation to the ED claims from Templeton ... obviously there is a lot for them to sort out so they were unable to confirm at this time that mine was amongst it
Will NEW OWNERS, be contacting ALL current insurance policy holders to tell them of changes?????????

I'm wondering the same thing!

Yes, that's what they told me. He said they are waiting for the FSA to approve the wording of the letter, which will be next week, then they will start sending out letters in alphabetical order.
