I posted yesterday that we'd finally got our oz visa. I've been thinking today about job prospects, our visa is based on James skills and I plan to go out and just find the first job that comes along pay the rent and think about a career path while I'm earning.

Anyway a convesation with my saddler has got me thinking about enquiring about a francise for equestrian brands not launched over there yet, ie joules, comfort zone, specialist dressage brands. However I don't know where to start and obiously don't want to contact their people and come accross as a foolish mad person. Ideally I'd like to run a tack shop but also eventually have a mobile unit to take on the road.

I just know there would be money to be made but have no idea how to go about enquring and setting up, I know they wouldn't offer me (little miss art degree) sole distrubitorship for a huge brand like joules but I love the idea of having a francise like that especially on new territory and I'm confident I have the skills to promote and see especially things I know inside out like horse leisurewear.

Anyone out there into this kind of thing?

I have done some work in equestrian retailing (home and abroad)

You would need to start planning here by building a business plan, cosying up to the major names in the business (get yourself to BETA in the spring) with a good idea of your potential outlets - that aspect will be challenging at this distance as well as the PR

Shipping costs will eat into your profit margins, although you may be able to get stuff shipped direct from manufacture to retail outlet - which may actually be cheaper in Australia

Thanks for your reply, I'm going to speak to my sister she has a business background and may be able to help out from this side, I suspect it would take me 6 months to suss things out over there, genrate interest, and compile some stats to present, I wonder if it would be worth using ebay or start a smaller mobile stands are their main equestrian events, then see how it goes. My sister could see to the uk side and I could run the show in oz,

can you tell I've had a horrible day at work and am getting carried away with my fantasies!!!
