Equestrian Holiday Friends/ Ladies 50+

Bit late to this thread but you could also join the Facebook group 'Equestrian Adventuresses' to meet other likeminded people. I'm an equestrian travel agent and there are a LOT of ladies going on riding holidays alone - it's a fantastic way to make new friends. Many agencies also offer escorted trips which can be great for single travellers, especially for the first time.

I went on my own to Cae Iago in Wales some years ago. Lovely hosts - had sociable (and lovely) dinners with other guests in the evening, went to the pub etc. No awkwardness at all as we were all eager to talk about horses, :) I shared a room with another single lady I hadn't met before and it was fine! After a full day's riding, we were so tired, we pretty much went straight to bed and sleep so not much social awkwardness as you might think!
Def would recommend.

Re: The Camino di Santiago, there is not just one route, even through France. Literally everywhere I travel to east of Bordeaux as far as Lyon makes some type of claim to pilgrims coming through on their way to Santiago. I have certainly seen numerous walkers and cyclists en route. Even a large property just outside of my own village refers to pilgrims staying there in its sales details. However here is a link to one of the web sites giving some details: https://followthecamino.com/camino-de-santiago-routes/ and should provide some food for thought. Given the distances involved and the changes in terrain I would imagine even one part of such a ride would take several weeks and would need the services of a good really back up team for both horses and riders.

Best of luck wherever you decide to go.
