Hi! I'm a 29 y/o female and looking to book on the Safari volunteer experience in South Africa with Wild Inside Adventures as a solo traveller. Would any other solo female travellers be open to getting together and going together on the same dates? I'm finding it a bit daunting to commit to going alone 😰 thank you!

My son is on the same position, he's 22, finished uni last year, cannot get a job of any description and it's beginning to get hom down. None of his friends are interested in this sort of thing, I might suggest he copies you and " advertises" for company. I agree that it's a massive step to go alone, but am sure there will be lots of solo travellers there too, and the volunteer set up will build bridges very quickly. Good luck, I'm sure you'll have loads of fun and wonderful experiences, I wish I'd done that kind of thing at your age!

My daughter who is a little bit older than you has been going on riding holidays on her own for the last few years all over the world. Personally I think she’s rather brave but she’s always had great fun, saying that once you’re on the ride you’ve always got company. She even didn’t mind it when she went on a S Africa riding holiday only to find that she was the only one when she got there! The family looked after her really well. If you want anymore info you can always DM me and I’ll ask her to contact you.

I've been on many riding holidays alone Mongolia being the scariest and bar one when I went totally out of season you don't stay alone you end up making friends, Ive always had a great time. There's something I really enjoy about going alone.

I went to Crete on my own for a riding hol. There were ten French people, a Belgian, and me! The Greek hosts and the Ukranian ride leader all spoke good English, as did the Belgian, so it was actually fine and I had a great time.

Go on your own. You'll make friends for the holiday, be your own mistress, not be beholden to anyone. It's absolutely great fun. Done it several times, in Portugal, New Zealand and Mongolia.

The joy of doing these types of holidays is that a fair proportion of the other travellers will also be solo. It's a brilliant way of meeting people from other countries/cultures and you are much more likely to meet people by going alone.

My most recent holiday we were 5 people, all travelling alone. 3 Germans, a Belgian and me. I was completely humbled by how well they all spoke English particularly compared to my appalling language skills (when one of them described their home as being in butt f*** nowhere I almost fell off in shock 😂) The Germans were particularly courteous switching their conversations into English mid-sentence whenever I came into earshot.

I honestly can't recommend solo travel enough, deep breath, bite the bullet and go for it. You may worry before hand but I'd be astounded if you regret it. For reference I am quite shy and introverted by nature and not particularly sociable so I think if I can do it and enjoy it I think almost everyone can!

I've b been on training and clinics all over the world on my own. I'm careful about the type and time I travel but it's aways been good.

I'd be concerned about hitching myself to the wrong person by trying to find a buddy. Go on a UK weekend riding break with them first!
