D1 is riding Big Cob at the local RC show on Sunday. There are a number of Equestrian Life qualifier classes that she'd like to enter, including Working Hunter.

Question: D1 is fifteen - under RC rules she can't wear spurs, but are the rules different under Equestrian Life classes?


D1 is also riding Big Cob at the local Country Show (a week on Sunday, how excited are we??? :D). She's in the showing horse and showing cob (horse) classes, as well as the Local Rider:

Question: as she is riding a horse, is she allowed to wear spurs in any of the classes at the County Show?

I'm mildly panicking as I forgot to order a bridle, so am now hunting on the net! Need one from a company I trust to deliver on time!!! Yikes. It's either that or go and spend £120-ish at the local saddler's on Saturday. Oops. I will not be popular (Disco going in for full service, brakes, and various other bits on Monday.... ouch!).
 
does the schedule say they will be running under BRC rules?

not sure the rule re spurs carries over for juniors into showing anyway! (ps and she is tall enough to be 16!)
 
M - thankies :D. She is excited (as are we lol). Kitted her out head to toe the other week (new CO hat, shirt, tie, jacket, breeches, boots, and gloves - good job we likes beans on toast it is lol).

E - no idea re. the schedule.... is BRC British Riding Club? Unfortunately the RC people know us, so her height is of no use in this instance lol :D

Can one wear spurs in the Working Hunter class???
 
yup british riding club :) well we would generally say under BRC rules... which chucks a few differences in re SJ and dressage but would never have enforced the no spurs rule re under 16s in either of those rings.... probably because most didnt know about it. Afaik it would be correct for the class for her to wear spurs anyway... I wear them all the time as I think its daft that you shouldn't for natives.. when they are... quite often.. the ones that need them most! :D :D
 
Right, will go with the spurs :). She can always take them off if deemed incorrect :).

As you say, he is indeed a 'native' and the spurs just clarify for him how important it is that he moves off the leg neat and smartly :D :D. Couldn't boot him with them - even if D1 were to do that, she wouldn't live to tell the tale :rolleyes::eek::D
 
Hmm, that is a difficult one. I would usually consider it part of correct turnout to wear spurs in adult showing classes. Maybe best to check with the secretary?
 
Pippi thats just mean! and its likely to be of no help whatsoever :p

says self having been correct about a ruling over a judge at the areas last weekend ;) :D ester 1... judge 0 (though was trying to be polite given that they were scoring me rather than say I AM RIGHT god darn you :p (and I was :D)
 
Cant help the the spurs (looong time out of juniors!) but Ride Away have a good rep for getting things delivered.
Old Dairy has good selction that shouldnt break the bank either.

Of course we will expect pics of him in all his show horse glory :D

Just rang Equestrian Life lady - lovely lady :). She's checking, but she believes that over fourteens can wear spurs :). EL rules for their classes, RC rules for the RC classes :)

As to the bridle - I have given up! Don't have time to look any more, so it will be along to Risley on Saturday... *starts hunting for credit card, having already primed D that I'll be spending yet more money on the neddies... :D*
